I feel silly asking for help when so many people have worse problems, but I'm in a lot of pain. I've had this happen several times and I recently got a gym membership to strengthen the muscles but of course one or two times isn't going to help much yet. If anyone could send me some energy and/or give me some hints to do some magic myself? I was told not to take a hot back till tomorrow and focus on ice today.

Sending you good energy for the fast relief of your back pain.  I'm no help with the magic I'm afraid, being totally inexperienced myself.

Trying not to be tense should help prevent it getting any worse/hanging round longer than it has to, though that is easier said than done.  For future reference, Pilates is meant to be good for strengthening the core, or these days there's Pilates/yoga blends (but not at present, having already pulled your back muscles).  I thought it was alternating ice and heat - I take it you've taken an over the counter anti-inflammatory?

They gave me a muscle relaxer and higher dose of aleve for the pain. I've been going to the gym and focusing on trying to work on my core and back but I admit I've been slacking a bit. The annoying part is that it was kind of twinging yesterday and what hurt me was just leaning down to pick up some milk - and here I was thinking just before that "maybe I should have something else to eat" sigh.
