Curse it being a 20 hr drive to get to Winnipeg from Detroit, due to the fricken lakes all around me, or I would so drive up there today to help you out.  Best of luck and candles burning for the little one and for you. *hugs and scritches all around*

I wish it wasn't so long either! <3 This darling deserves a good home.

So uhh. Interesting day today!

(Small update: Domino (my kitty) is doing fine. No more blood in his urine! Waahoo! Here's hoping things stay that way!)

Woke up, get a text from the friend who is helping take care of the kitty (although he doesn't live there, his girlfriend does): they called HS, and HS said they'd hold him up for adoption for a week before putting him down. This made girlfriend of friend very upset, and she said she'd keep him as long as she could.

So me and J start calling everyone we know, posting on Facebook, etc. seeing who would help foster him. I called my aunt who is a sucker for cats and she agrees to help foster him (even though she has cats, and her oldest doesn't like other cats but it tolerates them). Life is good, right? Right.

I get a text while I'm at work from friend and friend's girlfriend keeping cat: they're at the vet's now. Vet says he is a she. And she is pregnant, possibly in the second-half of her pregnancy. 8| Also, there is no tattoo or microchip, so it seems even more obvious that she's a stray, and she's anywhere from 6 months to a year old. Waaay too young to be having a litter. So, we've made the decision to get her spayed and abort the fetuses, because friend's girlfriend has decided to keep the cat after all (she says /her/ cat is starting to get used to the other cat, and it's lived with other cats before, so that's good), but she can't take on kittens as well. She'll be spayed sometime this week (possibly tomorrow), so if any good thoughts can go towards her, that would be well appreciated. It's a hard decision but... it has to happen. :/ It's the best for the mama cat, and most people involved.

Otherwise, she's relatively healthy. Tested negative for FIV and feline leukemia. All she has is ear mites. So, for a street cat she's doing pretty good, methinks.

(I called my aunt back on the ride home from work. When I thanked her for offering to foster the cat, she laughed and said they probably would have kept the cat anyways [her husband is also a softie for cats], and that next time I should just drop the cat off on the doorstep. :p )

So uhm. I think things are good now? I'm just really freaking hoping that her cat adjusts to having another cat in the house again. Maybe I can stop being a ball of stress for the first time in days now. :)

A. Glad friend's girlfriend's cat has consented to sharing its human with the new cat!
B. Yikes! on kitty's age and condition. (Talk about baby mamas!)
C. Gotta love your aunt's response!

It's great that everything's worked out so well. ;)

You can also find my ramblings at my blog although I\'m not the best at regular updates.  I\'m working on fixing that. Or look for me on FB here or Google+ here. :)

That's the minimum I'd expected - I've heard of HSes with higher limits, or whose limits changed depending on how full they were, but I've never heard of one with less.  And, while it kinda sucks, any shelter has to have limits because overcrowding, or having more animals than they're able to care for properly, is no better for an animal, and arguably worse, than being on the streets.  So it's either set a time limit, or turn away newcomers as the no-kills were doing.

Six months is, I agree, way too young - closer to a year should be fine, though.  Trouble is, you don't know - and because she's friendly, not wary/feral, I doubt she's been out there all that long, which suggests the younger end.  A scenario that strikes me as highly plausible:  her (former) people were planning on raising their kitten to be a strictly indoor cat, and figured that meant there was no rush for things like tattooing/chipping or spaying - which worked just fine until her first heat gave her the extra incentive to escape.  Whereupon she promptly did what her hormones were telling her to do.  (When I plug biology numbers [from Wiki, because I'm lazy] into that scenario - sexual maturity at 5-10 months, gestation period a little over two months - I get the exact same answer the vet gave about her age, so I'd guess the vet mostly used the pregnancy in estimating it.  So I think it's likely that she's been on the streets for something over a month, but less than two.)

It's also as good of an outcome as you're able to give the fetuses.  Sucks that you're not able to do more for them, but you can't, so.  (((Nykti))), because it's hard to have to make a decision like that, and good thoughts for BabyMama Kitty.

I have a half Siamese Tabby that went into heat at 3 months, happily we whisked her off to be fixed as soon as she came out of it but it was really disturbing to think she could be pregnant when so very little.

But YAY for kittehs being safe!

Yeah the vet was sorta stunned too, apparently Siamese are known for early heats but that was still exceptionally early. I actually thought she was sick or something - I was 13 - but nope, hormones will out. She's fifteen now and doing just fine. :)

Well, that's good at least! :)

Update on lost kitty: She had her surgery today, and it went well. Kitty has to wear the Cone of Shame for the next two weeks though (I suggested they get her some sort of shirt however so it'll be easier for her to eat). They've decided to call her Morpheus (although spelled.. weirdly. Like Morphios. Eh.). Morphy for short. Heh. Friend's girlfriend's cat is still growly-hissy-glare-of-death at Morphy, although she hasn't lashed out at all. Actually, when friend's girlfriend was upset, Morphy crawled out from the bathroom (there's a gap between the floor and the door they have to block -- and I assume this is pre-surgery), down the hallway, over the cat-of-doom, and into the lap of his girlfriend to comfort her. Cat-of-doom just hissed and then waddled off. Much d'awww's for Morphy, though.

Also, no call backs or e-mails if it's anyone's cat at all.
