Goddess and God
« on: August 21, 2011, 12:23:11 am »
Hey everyone :) I am studying alittle bit more into deity. I believe there is one higher power.as in one I mean like both sides male and female goddes and god which make up the one. But everytime I pray some little voice in my head says "its not real its not real" but deep down in my heart I believe. this voice appears in everything I do in my life. Like school, or trying to find a career etc. I dont know if I should just ignore this and follow my heart? Also Im studying the Goddess Bast and have been drawn to her. Now is she actually a cat? or is she a symbol to represent the one aspect of the Goddess? or does this belif vary? thanks and blessed be :)

Kemetics believe that She is a goddess in Her own right.  She can be syncretized (two gods fuse to form a third god) in Kemetic thought as Bast-Mut and Sekhmet-Bast.

A great site on Bast is http://www.per-bast.org
Bast was originally a lioness headed deity, a solar goddess as an Eye of Ra and called the "Northern Hethert" so she may share some of Her attributes.  (It's either that or Southern Hethert.  I can't remember which side was for which one).  Later during the Greco-Roman periods She became associated with the domestic cat.  And it is through their association with Heru-sa-Aset with Apollo that you see Bast (associated with Artemis) being called a daughter of Isis.
I am the Goddess of Who I can Become. I mix the magic of the sorceress with the blade of a warrior. I walk the liminal pathways to see the face of the Goddess, both terrible and kind. As She stares back at me, I tremble in awe and ecstasy.  --SatAset

SatAset already addressed your questions about Bast, but about theology in general: how people see deity depends on who you talk to, and what makes the most sense to you.

Some people see all deities as aspects of one greater God/Goddess; some think every deity ever conceived of is completely separate; and some people don't have an answer, and don't worry about it - what they do works for them, and they're not interested in the nuts and bolts of theology. Your own answer might change as you learn and clarify your own beliefs, and that's okay too. (I know mine has! ;) )

Oh! And I had a little voice like that for a long time, until I started learning to feel energy - then it changed to "You're making this all up." :p It shows up for other things too, usually to tell me not to do something. At the moment, I'm trying to figure out how much of it is anxiety/worry, and how much is intuition. Sometimes it's right, sometimes it's not, and it's up to you to decide how much to trust it.

Thank's everyone :) I will do more research and thanks for the confidence boost :)

I would add that I think most people here aren't into the whole "TEH goddess" and "TEH god" thing, so you won't find many people who can answer your question from that perspective.
