If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Asking for Prayers for Rain
« on: July 11, 2012, 08:48:26 pm »
I don't normally do this but we need rain desperately. We've had about 1/3 of the normal amount of rain since April. Our crops are dying. Somehow we have to survive until next June, feeding ourselves, over 300 goats and 1800 hogs. The feed shortage is already widespread here (everyone is running out and getting less than half the historical yield) and there is no way we can afford to buy in feed unless people are finally willing to pay for their food for what it really costs.

If you could just keep me and mine in your thoughts and ask for rain, I'd very much appreciate it.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

We had rain in the forecast but now its back to sunny and hot. We went from 2 dead spots to 4 over night. The feed shortage is now official and the prices are going up without stopping. :(

I'll keep you in my thoughts and wish for rain. You can have our rain, it's done nothing but for months.

Thank you both, it means a lot to me. We stood there this afternoon watching the first clouds in two weeks come up over the lake and praying the clouds would sink low and open up but they rolled right over us.

I will pray they stay next time. I wish I could send you all the surplus rain we've been having here - we've been rotting for the last three months or so.

Great mind think a like. When I got the chance I was going to request a prayer request for rain/relief from the heat at least.  Not just for farmers like you although that would be top priority because both sides of the farmers market is affected by the drought. I'm sure the heat is not good for then animals besides from food wise.  {{{{{{{{{{{sending lots of energies}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Thank you! Yeah, the goats are not happy, they prefer about 15C... not 37C! They've slowed down milk production, not that bad since we're not getting paid anyway. I suspect consumers will feel the pressure too, from what I know about retailers, they like any excuse to push up the prices.

I would definitely take someone's surplus rain!

Thank you everyone! We finally got rain, 1.5"! Hopefully enough to keep what little of the crop that is left alive and revive the hayfields. They say we need another inch or two to really help but this is truly a gift from the Gods.

Of course... my one neighbour has never in a decade managed to bring in a dry cut of hay... guess who cut hay and got it rained on yesterday? 6 weeks without rain and he still manages to get it soaked. I hope he can get it dried out.
