If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Another very, very sick cat
« on: April 10, 2013, 12:46:56 am »
I'm sorry to be asking for support again so soon, but there it is.

As soon as we buried the cat who just died this afternoon, we discovered another sick cat.

Lola is about 15 and diabetic.  She's been lethargic for the last day or two, and we had an appointment to take her to the vet tomorrow morning.  But she started having seizures today, so we took her in this evening.  Her blood glucose level was extremely low.  The vet did a couple of "tide her over" things to stabilize her, then sent us to the emergency vet for overnight treatment.

The bloodwork shows kidney failure, anemia, and a probable infection, in addition to the glucose problem.  And the vet said her kidneys feel like they have tumors.

They're keeping her stable overnight, and we're going to pick her up in the morning and take her back to our own vet for options.

It's likely that we'll be saying goodbye to her tomorrow.

The best case scenario is that her blood sugar stabilizes so she won't have more seizures.  If that happens, we might be able to bring her home to die -- which might be a matter of hours or days.  But it's more likely that we'll have to euthanize her to prevent further distress and suffering.

I'm sorry to have to ask again, but I'd really appreciate whatever support you can send for Lola and for us.

I'll update when I can

Thank you.

That's terrible :( I will light a candle for Lola. I hope you're as OK as possible under the circumstances, Aster.

(((Lola, Aster, C, A, Z, and the furfamily)))

Very rough, twice so close together. I can't help but wonder if Buzz's illness and death had an impact on Lola and precipitated her crisis.

And if you need an 'outside' shoulder to cry on, you know where to find me.

That sounds like an incredibly hard situation to be dealing with, especially so soon. There's nothing wrong with asking for help, Aster. You and your family (furry and otherwise) are in my thoughts.

Thank you all so much!

Quick update:   We picked Lola up from the emergency vet this morning. They'd done more tests, so we now know her kidneys are definitely failing and she has a hormonal problem called Cushings disease, in addition to the diabetes. The prognosis is about as bad as it gets.

We decided to bring her home for the day and let her just lie on me all day, which is what we're doing right now.

We have an appointment at 5:45 with our regular vet to talk about what to do next.  If Lola won't suffer in any way, we would like to bring her home and let her go in her own time at home. But if she will suffer, we will have her euthanized to avoid that.

I'll let you all know what happens when I can.

Thank you for all your support. It really means a lot.

This is so hard.
