* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

A Very Personal Matter
« on: May 26, 2013, 10:49:49 am »
I would never admit to/discuss this anywhere but here. I couldn't handle the stress/babying/yelling from my family and peers. So to get down to it: I have a drinking problem. I want to completely stop. This gets difficult. I've tried before and I always give myself reasons I can just have a couple...no need to quit. I'm sure you can imagine the typical excuses. To make it worse, I work at a bar. But, I know I csn beat this! If I can quit soda and gluten, I can quit alcohol. So I'm asking for you to help me. Send your energy and prayers. And if anyone has been through this, send me a message. I really need support. Thank you!

You got it.  You'll be part of my weekly healing ritual tonight, and I'll try to add a little strength to the mix.

Happy to lend what moral support I can from here.
Remember, having a drinking problem doesn't make you a shitty person; you have an illness.
Have you looked into AA?

I haven't yet. I live in a very small town, and if there are any AA groups nearby they're at least an hour away. With my current work schedule this will be hard to swing...but I suppose it's worth looking into, right?

It would be. Quitting some like drinking or smoking tends to work better with group support. It can be done without it, but it can be a lot easier quitting with other people who are also quitting.  Regardless, you'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

I even quit smoking last year cold turkey, but this has been so much harder. Probably because my friends have actually encouraged me not to. I suppose a group of people who are on my side would make a huge difference.

Wow, seriously?  I love beer, and love sharing it even more. But I would never discourage a friend from quitting if they wanted to.  I'm so sorry!

Google "Alcoholics Anonymous" and the name of your city; you just might have a group where you are.  In a larger city you can find several groups that meet different nights during the week.
Worth looking into?  Definitely.

Also, what Brina said.  Might want to look for a new circle of friends.  Sober friends.

Just adding my voice to the "try Alcoholics Anonymous" chorus. It has worked wonders for friends of mine who needed to quit. Best of luck!
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

Or at least friends who don't try to actively undermine her efforts.

You'd be surprised. I do drink, but rarely, and the social pressure to drink is amazing - I've had people insist I drink something alcoholic until I told them I was driving, and have friends I've known for YEARS tell me how much they'd love to see me drunk some time. And I probably have it easy, because I never drank a lot of alcohol, so people are used to it. I'm really not surprised that some people are assholes about their drinking buddies quitting alcohol.

Bee - good luck quitting!

I'm familiar with social pressure to drink.  I wouldn't call anyone a friend who didn't respect my feelings, however.

Yeah, but I'd lay better odds on a sober crowd, especially if sobriety is the goal.  Like minded folk & all that.

I've actually considered the fact that maybe I'm not hanging with the right people. If they were good friends they would respect that I'm doing what's best for me. I think the problem for some of them is that if I admit I have a problem, that means maybe they have one too, and they don't want that to be the case.

But to everyone - you have no idea how good it makes me feel to see people supporting my decision. I seem to have found this site at exactly the right time in my life
