[Prayer and Engergy Requests] How to Post a Lit Candle
« on: September 29, 2012, 10:44:26 am »
I've added a special bbcode to allow a lit candle to be posted to the left of your message. Please only use this in appropriate replies to threads in the Prayer and Energy Requests board.

-----

[candle]YOUR ENTIRE REPLY HERE[/candle]

-----

Note that the ENTIRE TEXT of your reply must be between the candle bbcodes and you must close the code correctly or your message will appear strangely. PREVIEW IS YOUR FRIEND. USE IT. If you cannnot be bothered to use this bbcode carefully and correctly, please do not use it. Again PREVIEW IS YOUR FRIEND, PLEASE USE IT.

For example, the following:

[candle][I]This is a test of the candle bbcode[/I]. Had this been an actual prayer request, something intelligent would be said here.

[B]How intelligent[/B]?

Who knows?[/candle]

produces

lit candle imageThis is a test of the candle bbcode. Had this been an  actual prayer request, something intelligent would be said here.

How intelligent?

Who knows?

(Edited to adapt to the BBCode used by SMF - SP)

Oh, what a wonderful idea! I imagine this will see quite a lot of use.  (... and will require quite a bit of staff code-fixing while people are getting used to it.  Never mind, it's worth it, I think.)

I've added a special bbcode to allow a lit candle to be posted to the left of your message. Please only use this in appropriate replies to threads in the Prayer and Energy Requests board.

[/noparse]

You may wish to update this OP with the CODE bbcode, to show the details of the text.

Actually, I think I'll do that myself by quoting the original vBulletin message. Feel free to edit out if you consider it redundant:

Thanks for the heads-up, Eric! In any move, whether physical or virtual, there are always a lot of details that don't get adjusted right away; this is one of them - help from Cauldronites in spotting them can be very helpful to staff; we can't fix 'em if we don't see 'em, and we're not all-seeing.

I've edited the OP, but not in the way you suggested; there's a better bit of BBCode on SMF than CODE for this purpose: NOBBC. (The similar bit of code Randall used on vB, but that's broken now we're back on SMF, was NOPARSE; since I simply changed each instance of it in the original from NOPARSE to NOBBC, it should be rendering exactly as Randall intended - if not, I imagine he'll let us know.)

That looks right. Unfortunately, I can't easily add a "NOPARSE" BBCode that duplicates the vB code like I could for some of the other vB codes we use.

That doesn't seem like a very big deal, since NOBBC works just fine.

Thank you Randall for the thoughtful addition to the site :)

And thank you to all the staff for the help you'll provide in making sure We The Masses properly learn to use the thoughtful addition to the site :P
