They will remain hugs here. We have been using them as such for nearly 20 years now. I see no reason to stop doing so because some people on the Internet are apparently using them in a different way -- a way I had never seen until you used it like this yesterday.

Yeah I only saw it a few months ago. It seems like they have a shitload of slang. F'ex, I'd heard the term 'cultural marxism' before, but always assumed was a reactionary fullisade against All Things Left.  No idea it's really anti-Jewish code, as DH pointed out elsewhere.

It would help if places like Wikapedia would stress the original usage instead of sidelining it. I really get tired of being expected to stop using words, signs, symbols and even certain colors because someone not nice decided to use them. Given up their usage just gives those groups more power, IMHO. Power they should not have over society. Sure, sometimes things become fairly universally associated with "bad stuff" (e.g. the N-word and the swastika), but in most such cases it is just a small vocal group which shouldn't be allowed to dictate usage to everyone else.

Right? For years I was using the number 88 in my online pseudonyms because I was born in 1988. When I learned that neo nazis were using the number as a code for "heil Hitler" I was furious. I was so angry that I could risk being associated with those dipwads by just referring to my birth year.

I guess, since we're well into the 2000's now, I should get used to referring to my birth year as 1988 now... STILL, though!

I believe most people haven't come to the same conclusion I have about most people in Neo-Nazi, White supremacist, etc. groups. These people are bigots, but lots of people are bigots who aren't involved in such groups and would not want to be. The folks in such groups, IMHO, are just using their bigotry as an excuse to basically bully others. And like most bullies what they enjoy most is power over others. Quit giving them that power and many will fade away. This means stop giving up words and symbols the instant they "adopt" them with some twisted and sick meaning. This means stop giving their most minor actions headline news coverage. And yes, where possible, it means chase them away like the cowards most bullies are when you can -- as was done in Boston, for example.
