If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

The Medical Invention of Hispanic?
« on: November 05, 2014, 03:56:54 pm »
Well, just got back from a doctor's appointment that did not happen (people with my insurance plan are prohibited) and learned while signing the registration form that I belong to the Nonhispanic Race.

Did not know that.

When I asked the receptionist why humanity had been divided into two races she said the Meaningful Use Act requires them to do this. So, I went digging. Haven't found anything that says people need to be divided into two races, actually, the action plan I found for leveraging health disparities in light of these laws says that racial and ethnic categories should be extremely detailed, not extremely simplified.

So, hm.

Then I came upon a discussion about revisions to the Census Bureau racial and ethnic categories and learned that Hispanic is not a race, it's an ethnic/culture group comprising 20 countries that persons of said regions find ridiculous in its invention. The criticism just when on and on.

Does the medical center I went to exist in the twilight zone? Oh, gave myself another headache. Any opinions on what's going on here? Anyone else been assigned to the Nonhispanic side by a medical group?

It is just a data thing.  "Hispanic" is a much-debated term and category, and it is also controversial that it's, on many forms, "White (Hispanic Origin)" vs. "White (Non-Hispanic Origin)."  All this is is that many facilities, especially those providing care, have to record a certain amount of demographic data according to rules set by various federal agencies so they can report the numbers to oversight bodies.  That data gets crunched and helps determine apportioning of funding, etc.  It's just one of those weird bits of data gathering that surrounds us silently all the time.
