what happens if this becomes a civil war?

Geographically and socially, extremely unlikely at present. The people who would be waging such a war are too politically disorganized and scattered. US politics isn't just balkanized but atomized- there is very little in the way of communal faultlines to fuel a civil war. It's one thing for a group of gun hobbyists to show up at protests and shoot at people, and completely another to wage an armed struggle, requiring enough on-the-ground civilian support to keep fighters fed, supplied, armed, and sheltered. That doesn't mean these right-wing militia can't do real damage- murders or even massacres are all too likely- but they aren't prepared, mentally, politically, or logistically for a war. Their actions come out of a comfortable existence oriented around spectacle and mass media hype. Questions like, where would they get their water? Who would keep them fed? etc. in an actual civil war aren't even on the radar. I would say this  also about leftist protestors showing up armed- it may look cool on Instagram but are they ready to do anything with those weapons? Not at all. Don't get me wrong, it's important for leftists to familiarize themselves with arms, train with them, and be prepared to defend organizing and communities if necessary, but fantasies about guerilla warfare are a dead end.
