Ummm...No, it doesn't.

Actually, it does. Which is why it would work. Neither extreme could get in unless you had a situation where you had a two-thirds majority of extremists of one side in the Senate, so you either get people truly in the center or no judges at all. Yes, at first, you would get no judges, but after a few years of that, it would start to work.

That you disagree pretty much shows that it does.

I believe Skyth's point was that there is no functional leftist party in the United States, which is, considered geopolitically, factually the case; on a European scale, the parties in the US are right and centre-right, and there is no left.

If there were actually a party that would only put forward far-left conforming candidates and positions, the range of political debate here would be much, much, much broader, if nothing else.

Mostly that and a bit of the Republicans have shown themselves to be unwilling to negotiate, which is not something that I've seen from the Democrats (Except during the most recent budget battle where the Republicans have made it clear that they weren't negotiating in good faith).  It's pretty objectively apparent the amount of derogatory name-calling towards 'Liberal' ideas as compared to other ideas.

Combine with the Tea party who is so convinced that government by itself is bad that they saw shutting down the government as a good thing.  Not sure they would be bothered by judges not being appointed.
