Eh.  I think that saying "They shouldn't be that way!" is a big problem no matter which "side" is doing it.

Then how exactly do you intend to change people if you can't point to a way you'd like them to be?

Coming right in with "You're wrong and stupid" is certainly not the way to start.  Like it or not, that's what "You shouldn't be like that" conveys, and that's why a lot of people in more conservative regions think that liberals are smug, arrogant shitheads who think everyone else is inferior.

I would point out that nowhere in this thread have I said "you're wrong and stupid", nor is that any way derivable from "you shouldn't do x". Why you're stuffing those words into my mouth is beyond me.

I said that that was how it comes across to people you are shoulding at, and it is observably the fact that it does.  You may not like that it does, you may find it unreasonable that it does, but when you say "People shouldn't be like that", the people who are like that feel that you are expressing complete contempt for them, their way of being, and their values.  At which point they will not listen to you.

How marvellous, then, that in this thread and in this forum I happen to be not addressing them.

I am baffled (he said, apparently to himself as he sadly clicked the quote button). Of the thousand and one comments on TC about dumb fundies, in this thread where I've said no such thing I suddenly get the lecture?

Baffled.

Gingrich: Gay Marriage a 'Perfect Example of What I Mean by the Rise of Paganism'

Actually, I think it's safe to say that most of the people supporting same-sex marriage and/or getting married to people of the same sex belong to Christian denominations. But hey, go, pagans!

My favorite topic,,, Politics.

The only way to get people like this out of Politics is to go and vote for the lesser evil. If We The People are dissatisfied with Conservative Republicans, go and vote for a liberal Republican or a Democrat. What the hell, they may not be what you really want but they're the lesser evil.

I myself have zero problems with gays and their wanting to marry. They aren't feeling me up or wanting to marry me and I'm not likely to try and video tape them while they're playing in bed so what's it to me? In fact the gays That I have met were very respectful of me and my lifestyle. They seem to be more adult than those running for office or condemning them.

As for traditional Christian beliefs, I have to respectfuly relate it to the Muslim faith in the sense that, you're a sinner so I'm going to kill you. I in good conscience cannot follow a belief that is willing to take the life of another simply because they don't think like I do nor can I support someone who so easily condemns another just because they are different.

Based upon the words of those running for the Republican nomination at this point in time, they seem to give very little value to human life, unless of course they can use the value of life excuse to stop a woman from an abortion that she may desperately need.

Anyone that considers someone aged, hungry, sick, disabled, unemployed etc a debit to be eliminated by cutting them out of the equation lacks human emotion in my mind. Anyone that places a high value on another human simply because they are willing to kill at your command and them reward them by abandoning them once they are of no more use to you is lacking in morals and human emotion. Anyone that feels someone with wealth of more value than someone less privileged has no business trying to lead others down their path.

I for one cannot vote to elect those of this caliber to lead me and my Nation in anything whatsoever.

Who knows, perhaps if a group of people with the same train of thought were to design sigils, spells etc with the same goal in mind, things may change for the better. That would be an experiment I'd like to participate in. Sounds like it might be as much fun as running DOS attacks.:whis:

And thus our mostly Democrat members should vote in the GOP Primary for the most liberal of the GOP candidates that is running at the time they vote this year.

actually, that's what I usually do, since I have to pick a primary, but don't have to go with what I'm registered as.  Of course if the republicans do the same and vote for the most conservative democrats, maybe we actually will meet somewhere in the middle.

If Mr. Romney, Mr. Gingrich or Mr. Santorum have a liberal bone in their body I'll eat my hat,,, all six of them. What I'm seeing coming from their "debates" seems to be a bad remake of dumb and dumber with a few backup characters.

Conservate Dem, if one is running is normally how I do vote. If any candidate says moderate, I try and pay them the most attention.

1 - Gingrich started as a Democrat; Romney was governor of MA, one of the very liberal states

2 - it's the primary. all of them are running to the edge of their party. that's why it's important in primaries to vote for the most conservative Democrat or liberal Republican of the bunch that is running.

I'll be 57 this wednesday so I'm aware of whom is whom. And I say that with no sarcasm intended. I'm also aware of the health plan Mr. Romney instituted. Mr. Gingrich kind of made his bed with me when he was speaker of the house.

Agreed. But this only serves to make one wonder what does any of them really stand for? Are they telling the truth or putting on a show? If I wanted to watch a show I'd turn the telly on or pop over to Hulu or Netflix. Way to many games are going on and this country really doesn't need any games played when the entire countries future is at stake.

At http://www.americanselect.org/ one can see all the people running for the nimination and it's more than Santorum/Romney/Obama etc. I for one would be much more willing to give several a shot at things above ANY of those running to nclude Mr. Obama.
