There are now no obstacles to equal marriage in the UK - the final debate is about some amendments. It will be law by the end of the week and the first marriages can happen in 2014.

On a personal note, this means we can get our 'upgrade' to marriage in a year's time!

Sorry, you're right - I should have said 'England and Wales', not 'the UK'. I get confused about which laws apply to the whole of the UK and which only apply to England and Wales. Good to hear that Scotland is working on it too!

Honestly I was surprised by this headline.  For some reason I had the notion that SSM was already legal in the UK.  So, damn, now I have to say congrats again.  So, congrats!

Nope - England and Wales have had civil partnerships for several years (not sure about Scotland), but not marriage.
