Too many cats...too many questions
« on: April 13, 2012, 09:31:30 pm »
There's a discussion going on over on my OSH mailing list and people are talking about the funny looks and comments they get when they go to the pet store and stock up hugely on food and litter.

This reply took the cake:

"We fill the large shopping carts at Petsmart with cases of Fancy Feast Pate's.   At Walmart's recently a clerk said, "Oh you must have a lot of cats", when I put four cases down on the counter.  I always become a smart Alec to people like that.  I said, "No, my husband loves this stuff."   She gave me such a weird look.  The lady behind me began to laugh.  At least she knew I was joking.

A grocery boy carrying out some bags of kitty litter to my car some years
ago asked me if we have cats.  I said, "No, my husband is afraid of toilets.
He didn't laugh, he looked kind of scared.  I could just imagine him
telling his friends about the crazy lady he helped at the store that day.
My poor husband is the butt of all my jokes.  Fortunately he thinks it is
funny.   I know people are just trying to be friendly, but they sometimes
say the dumbest things.  LOL

People just don't think you may be buying in bulk for your cats like you would for yourself. Wonder how people react to folks buying lots of dog food?

Growing up we had a pool and at that time you had to balance the ph with baking soda. So we bought like 20 boxes at a go. It wasn't so obvious what it was for but when asked we did say it was our favorite food.

I snort laughed at the "afraid of toilets." That is hilarious!

I have no idea. Though I suspect the idea of having a kennel isn't as foreign as someone having a cattery. Not sure why.

Probably not to badly since there are still many places where senior citizens resort to dog food to survive on limited budgets.  Perhaps an urban myth for the most part but i've known social workers who'd say different.

LOL at all of them.  I'm going to have to remember this for whenever I need to be the one to buy things for our four cats.

Of course, I would also buy a tub of Cool-Whip and if they ask, I'll just say I'm catering a wedding.

And as someone who took a Garde Manger class, I can safely say that that's what a lot of the haute cuisine is.

Hmm, wouldn't it be 'cattering' the wedding in that case?
Not sure about the grammar here... :p
