Hamsters! I adore them, especially roberovskis. Yours are gorgeous. I've had Syrians, roberovskis and Russian dwarfs. I can't have any more because kitties and mouse-like creatures do not make good housemates. Alas.

Thank you! Know what you mean, I'd love a cat but can't because of the hams, plus I live in a flat and I think I'd be terrified to  open the balcony door in case they jumped off or something daft

Here is Jasper, our Siberian Husky.  Extremely quiet for a dog, no less a husky.  He's also eerily smart ... touching us with his nose in specific spots or making specific gestures when he wants specific things.

He is also an accomplished seat thief.  And an avid watcher of people and things.

I have....cats.

Firstly, the cats who are "mine" now.

Here is Liquorice. She is fluffly (hmmm...meant to just say "fluffy" but I like that better) and rambunctious, and probably part Maine Coon, like another of my family's cats, Maxwell.
IMG_20140523_090011_213 by Redfaery1987, on Flickr

Here is Sinnamon. She's probably related to Liquorice, but they're not littermates; she's older by about half a month. She's much smaller, too, and much more eager for affection.
Sinni Buns by Redfaery1987, on Flickr

Sinni and Liq both came from the animal shelter in Randolph County, which is predominantly rural. It has a phenomenally high kill rate, because there are just so many unwanted animals. I've heard lots of horror stories about small, rural shelters, but thankfully, Randolph County doesn't go in for wanton cruelty or willful neglect. Still, it's clear that the place is underfunded and understaffed, and that the animals are in need. Both Sinni and Liq were full of parasites when I got them (worms, fleas, mites, you name it) and both had a virus and an upper respiratory infection. Liq's eye were inflamed, and she had an allergic reaction to the ointment the vet gave me. So her eyelids are permanently scarred now. Sinni's "cold" turned into pneumonia. She became severely anemic and had to be put into an oxygen chamber, too. I'm so grateful that my mom footed the bill for me to take her to a Vet hospital. It was almost $3000! She recovered, and both of them are healthy little girls now - fixed, vaccinated, everything.

Here is a photo of Joni, who died this January. She was the one who came with me when I moved out. A rescue. When my sister brought her home, she was so starved, you could see her bones through her skin.

She had beautiful green eyes:

This is Biggie, who passed last month. Another rescue. Also emaciated when my mom found him. He got his name "Mr.Bighead Stupo" from his enormous head, which looked even bigger when attached to his pitifully thin body. But...he filled out.

And here is Max, who is my parents' cat. He was a rescue (I found him in the street, wet from the rain). The vet offhandedly commented "he's going to be big" but we didn't think much of it, until he was a little over a year old, and realized that he was STILL GROWING. He's about 3 now, and he's HUGE. I think he's a Maine Coon. Don't worry about him in this picture here. It's quite a small tree.;)

I can't forget Aunt Sarah, either! She took up with my grandfather (mother's father) before he died. He named her after his sister, Sarah. He actually hated cats, but he liked this one. Still, he left her outside on his porch in all weather, and never took her to the vet. So when we took her in, she was full of parasites...but she's never had a health problem since. She's got to be about 15 or so, and she's still young and spry.
Glad I'm back by Redfaery1987, on Flickr

We've also got a half-siamese named George (solid black...has sometimes caught grief on Halloween), but I don't have any good pictures of him. He's the only non-rescue, and he's pretty stuck-up. He has several other homes that he visits. Quite a charmer.
KARMA: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Here's my Fatty McFatterson:

Her name's Tinkerbell. But mostly we call her Fatty or Fluff. She's also my familiar. I think. She likes to play with everything on my altar and interrupt me when I'm meditating or doing something witchy.

Iiiii totally didn't see this till today. *sheepish look*

Your kitty is super cute!

Quote from: missgraceless;110353
EDIT: Also, Lord Tyee Houdini-Wolf the Awful Pawful. Absolutely gorgeous. How could anyone even think about euthanizing such a cute face?

I know, right? He is so sweet. He had a price on his head, though, and no one to pay it till mom was contacted. Apparently he followed some lady home and she freaked. (Likely he was just hungry and hoping she'd give him some food; he got neglected by his former people.)

Lots of people look at him and see wolf, which immediately triggers a fear response because of centuries of anti-wolf propaganda. Most people who are scared of wolves don't know the first damn thing about them. A healthy respect is essential, but there's no reason to fear them unless you give them a reason to hurt you (and humans are so good at giving animals reason to hurt them and then turning around and blaming the animal for human stupidity/hubris). But this fear means that if anything goes wrong, Tyee and us are the ones who pay for it -- if he snaps at one little ill-mannered brat, the city will order him killed. Nevermind if he was provoked by a child who wasn't raised to respect dogs. No, obviously he's a vicious animal who needs to die.

So we're basically on constant alert when outside the house with him. (There's also a bit of worry about certain people taking matters into their own hands with a gun -- happened to my mom's wolf dog Amaruq, decades ago, and people have threatened to shoot Tyee because he was barking. Which he does when frightened. Gods I really hate humans some most times.)

First up, our Ibizan Tarmo keeping a watchful eye out for any stray hare (or cat, or fox):

Here's the house Pharaoh Louis sprinting towards his lure coursing Derby (for dogs turning 3 that year) win:

This picture is of me and my babies. Behind me is Belladonna (Bella), and in front of me is Hemlock (Hemi). I rescued both as kittens last August, from a shelter with a 70% kill rate for cats. When I got them home, Bella went straight for a hiding place under the kitchen cabinets, and Hemi went straight for the food bowl, which pretty much sums up their personalities. The only times I've ever seen Hemi run and hide are when the cat carrier comes out (they both HATE the carriers) and when the landlord shows up, because he's a good judge of character like that, but Bella tends to be a little shy. As I type this, Bella is curled up on my bed, on a pillow, and Hemi is trying to climb the window blinds. Again.

That is completely unfair. I can promise if I ever saw Tyee walking around, I would not try to shoot him. (Like seriously, what the fuck is wrong with people?) I'd probably stare goggle eyed and be all, "is that a wolf? THAT IS SO METAL."

I was at the SPCA just today putting in my adoption application for a cat. If I'm approved I'll post pictures for ya'll because she is a hideous gremlin creature.

Wow, your cats are goregeous

I, too, have cats :D:

This is Khutspe; she's almost 10 now, and starting to show that she's older. She was very cranky and abrasive before but she's much cuddlier now.

Don't worry, she can look cuddly, that's her 'feed me' stare.

This is Digger; he died a few years ago, but he was my first cat, and I still miss him dreadfully. He was my cat, and he'd lie in my arms for hours and hours when he wouldn't do it for anyone else.

After he died we got two other cats, sisters, pure black and terribly hard to photograph, which hasn't stopped me from trying. Their names are Shadow and Storm.

Storm, particularly, is a bit of a menace when I'm on the computer.

Gotta love 'em.

Oh gods, Huskies are the cutest! Before our two rescues (both wolf-shepherds) we only ever had wolf-huskies in our lives.

*flails* I just wanna snuggle him so bad! auuuugggghhh he's so cute I wanna die. <3 <3 <3

I got to pick her up today! Her given name is 'Poochie' but that makes me think of the Simpsons, so. Changing that. Dunno what to, yet.
