Sympathy. We have an 18-year old cat (who we'd had since we adopted him when he was ten) who is beginning to develop age-related mental issues even though he is still going strong physically. The only sign of his age physically is he can jump like he used to. We don't know how much longer he'll be with us.

Also we foster senior hospice dogs, so we go through losing dogs far more than we'd like. It never gets easier.  even when you know they only have a few months to a year when you get them, they quickly grow a place in your heart.

I'm so sorry to hear this.  As others have said, it's never ever easy and you have my deepest condolences.
