What's Your "Mutant Power"?
« on: May 28, 2014, 03:03:22 pm »
I'm a hard science guy, so color me skeptical. But in honor of the new X-MEN movie, I figured I'd ask folks what, if any, truly weird sh*t they can do.

Here's mine:

--Some 30 years ago, a friend's sister was about to have her first child. "It's going to be a boy, and they're going to name him Jonathan," I told my friend--having never met the sister and knowing nothing about her. And that's what happened. (My friend swears she kept true to my request to not tell her sister and just see what happens.)

--Some 3 years ago, I was at a party where I knew nobody. This woman chatted me up, beaming because she'd just found out she was about to become a grandmother for the first time; her daughter, in London, thought it was going to be a girl, but Grandma-To-Be was betting on a boy. "It's going to be a girl," I said, "and they're going to name her Anabelle." GTB blinked; "the name they want, if it's a girl, is Arabelle." (I have no idea how that one turned out.)

There was no special feeling involved in either instance; it just happened. (In the first instance, I was sober, and in the second, definitely NOT sober.)

So it seems I have this sporadic useless talent for the naming of babies yet to be born. Call me NeoNate!

So...what's your "mutant" power?
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

I can foretell the weather to an unnerving degree of accuracy. Pretty sure its nothing to do with being psychic but something to do with my sensory issues, in that i pick up clues and signals in the air that other people don't notice/pay attention to.

I wish I could do that! I'd call you Storm, but it's already taken.

Being able to say "I told you so" to extreme optimists...but there's nothing really special about that.

Destroying electronic equipment. Everything breaks around me - I've had laptops that lasted two weeks, phones that would work for everyone but me, a series of mp3 players that failed to play music... My computers all get the same name, thanks to their tendency towards extreme 'blue screen of death' disease: I'm currently up to Mr Crashy XI. Batteries give up particularly often with me. I think I hold static to a ridiculous degree, as evidenced by all the shocks. When I used an electric wheelchair, I would refuse to press lift buttons or shake hands with people. Every time -  bzzzzz.

So...what's your "mutant" power?

Hm.

Well, when learning 'energy work' I found raising & directing energy to be pretty easy... one of the first 'witchy' skills I learned and still something I can do without much prep.
Also, I'm good at being a pain in the ass to my adoring wife.

I have the opposite: I can often resolve coworkers' computer issues simply by looking over their shoulder. Call me the Technopath.

Also I apparently cause rain at vacation destinations by going there. Although that may be more of a divine practical joke.

I have enough things I can do, but the one that's ALWAYS been...well sort of a problem is I have telekinetic accidents. I have broken electronics, broken machinery, shattered plastic as if it were glass, made things fall off shelves, etc. It's a problem because it happens when I get really angry. The only manner of control I have of it at this time is to...well...not get angry...which can be harder then it sounds. So yeah...I can do other things with energy work, and healing, and that stuff too, but that's the biggest issue of mine. :ashamed:

I have a strange ability to get caught in things in the most unlikely ways. Today I accidentally upended a trash can by catching its lip on the top of my boot. The weirdest one was getting tangled in a passing scooter by a cord on my bag. The scooter was in the street, I was on the sidewalk, and somehow as I walked by the cord swing out just so.

I have no wisdom teeth. I'm in my thirties, and there is absolutely no sign of them at all. My dentist says I'm a mutant, but I'm pretty sure with powers that shit .

I have Asperger's syndrome, so I truly do have some mutant powers.:ange: I'm hyperlexic, for example. Whenever my neuropsych runs the full battery of tests on me, I always make it completely through the vocabulary test with only one mistake or so. It's a test of about 20 words, and it cuts out if you miss 3 in a row. They get harder as they go along. Apparently, I'm the only person who's ever made it through the whole thing.

Osculate my posterior anatomy!:D:

My hyperlexia gives me a distinct advantage online, because it "evens the playing field" so to speak. I come across as much more socially adept online than I do in person, because most of my handicaps are compensated for. Like, my inability to read subtle non-verbal cues? Everyone else has that problem too on an internet forum! My tendency to ramble off on tangents? I can edit what I just said! Not to mention I'm a much better writer than speaker.

So yeah, that's my mutant superpower.;)

Hey, don't feel bad. I had an extra eyetooth in the roof of my mouth. I also had some other weird dentition...I think one of my molars has 8 roots? I'm also missing my forehead sinuses. My reproductive bits are also kind of...twisted up. I think I just wasn't fully baked when I came out!
