strange encounter with a fox
« on: October 30, 2015, 12:35:37 am »
I am seeking advice from this forum, since the event and what led up to it still disturbs me.

For months I have been having this strange and often almost a premonitional feeling about foxes. I gave it almost no credence and ignored it thinking nothing of it other than it was a fancy.

Then just a few weeks ago, I was traveling at night down a rural road near where I live. I saw some distance something on the road. No street lights so I couldn’t make out what it was, but in a moment I saw it. It was a silver fox. I had not seen one in over 40 years in my area.
It was trotting determinately straight down the middle of the road at my SUV – I was going at about 50 miles – yet it showed no fear whatsoever. It did not veer and it was too late for me to veer without causing an accident with the cars behind me. It went under my car when I reached a minute later and I heard and felt a light thud underside.

I did not stop due to the dangers of the late hour, the fact that it was a rural area and the traffic behind me. The event freaked me out though, the way it came at me like it was a fate thing, and saddened me.

But since then, I have not been able to get the event out of my mind, and that premonitional feeling started again almost immediately after, yet this time it’s vague. Like something is not complete.

I would like any suggestions, or insights that may help me both understand and/or actions that I can do to help me deal with this situation. Thanks.

Not to be crass, but you ran over a fox and didn't even bother to see if it was okay afterwards. That is all kinds of Not Cool.

You were told ahead of time there was going to be A Thing happening involving a fox, said event happened and you made an ethically questionable choice, and now you're left with the results of the choice.

Go back to the site where it happened, apologize your ass off to the fox, and make a donation to your local wildlife rehab clinic.

No doubt the truth can be unpleasant, but I am not sure that unpleasantness is the same as the truth.  — Roger Ebert

What is your heart telling you to do?

I would definitely go back to the site and apologize to the fox and the nature around the area.  I would do so in a ceremonial manner.

To me, it sounds like this fox had a special message or connection for you.  Perhaps it was a warning to be more attentive and careful or responsible.  Depending on what your beliefs are, you may want to contact the spirit of the fox and ask them for guidance.

Thank you, for your comments though. As I had explained stopping wasn't the safest thing to do at the time and the reasons were given.

Let me bring you up-to-date. I had some bad situations happening since. Such, as one of my close relatives fell and hit her head, I was next door and was able to get her to the trauma center their. I've had financial problems that were unexpected, and other strange happenings from broken tables to dying new equipment at work. It's just a lot of bad S*** going on.

I just can't understand why this is happening to me. Why I wasn't told how to change what would happen instead of it happening? Or, what purpose did it serve?

In any case, I had gone back shortly after writing my post. The blood stain was the only thing left of the encounter.

But believe me, yes it felt wrong for me not stopping, too. Yet, I'm not sure how to apologize to it, and I have always supported nature causes. I donate already to them.

Thank you, for your suggestion as well. I am looking into doing just that.

You might want to look up some Native American prayers to the Fox spirit and take some natural tobacco (unpolluted by chemicals) to make a sacrifice on the spot where this happened.  You don't know if you killed the fox or not so just think of apologizing and asking for wisdom as to why this happened. Leave your heart and mind open to the lesson Fox was trying to send to you. I hope this will bring you some peace.
