* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Shadow People hurting people?
« on: December 30, 2011, 10:42:20 pm »
I'm watching a paranormal show and they are investigating shadow people.  Now I've heard a little bit about them, don't claim to be an expert.  But I've never heard of them draining the life out of adults or leading children into danger.  Has anyone heard of this? Any experiences along this line?

I haven't spent a whole lot of time on this subject but the only time I really can say I have heard of a negative slant is in the movies WHITE NOISE and THE ENTITY.  In that instance they feed upon the suffering and loss of life (White Noise) or feed upon the infliction of sexual assualt and subjugation of an individual (The Entity).  But i'm not sure they would be identified as Shadow People in the normal sense of its usage.

Edited to add:

Within WHITE NOISE i've read its as high as 25 - 35 percent of all recorded messages are actually threats of harm and violence against humanity.  So there is some truth to the movie in that regard.  The movie THE ENTITY is also based upon a true encounter that lasted over many years, still ongoing though lessened in intensity from what I read at the time.

No, not really. I'm highly skeptical of the existence of shadow people to start with, but there seems to be less evidence that they are generally malevolent than there is that they exist. Malevolent shadow people probably make for more exciting shows however.

To put it simply: paranormal reality TV shows have little to do with actual paranormal investigations.  The TV studios are primarily focused on making money and the easiest way to do that with regards to reality shows is to make them seem more exciting than they actually are.  For example, EVPs are extremely rare in real investigations but the people of TAPS seem to get at least one in every place they visit.

In other words, watch these shows with a bucket of salt at the ready.

For that matter, the word "paranormal" is kinda superfluous in that sentence - "reality" TV shows have little to do with actual reality.

Sometimes I think Douglas Adams was off base - never mind our towels; the thing we most need with us at all times is our salt.  There are few, if any, things that don't benefit from being looked at with a salty/critical eye.
