Dream help; meeting the same people and remembering the previous dreams

Hi! I tried looking up this topic but didn't really see anything that was similar to my situation.

I dreamed I met someone in what seemed to be a marketplace this time. A woman around my age, a brunette with a splatter of freckles on her face. And I didn't pay much attention to them at first as I was busy exploring the clothes that were being sold, but they waved me over and when I saw them, I instantly remembered the previous dream where I had seen them years ago. So we started talking about it, laughing and stuff and some people asked us if we were friends and she just replied with 'something like that'.

It's definitely not the first time it has happened either. I've met many people like this in my dreams, knowing them from a previous dream I might have had years ago. And these people always remember me, they remember the dream we've shared and what we've done, even if I've never met these people in real life. The tricky part here being that I don't remember them until they come to me, then it's like something clicks and I recall everything.

Sometimes, I dream of the exact same dream I've had before, except I remember dreaming about that dream; I remember the choices I made, I remember what I did, and I always go and do things differently this time because I already know how the dream would progress if I did the same things again. It has saved me from nightmares, as I've done different choices and this time am not caught by whatever is trying to suffocate me.

I rarely remember these dreams for much longer than a day, then it all slips away and I'm only reminded of it when I have a dream like that again.

I don't know what to call it, I don't know why or how it happens-- but I'm wondering if there are others here who have similar experiences or might know what's the cause of this, or what it means. This has been driving me up the walls for my entire life, I'm 29 at the moment and I think I had my first dream like this when I was ten or so.

A close friend of mine suggested it might have something to do with my bloodline as my mother's side was known for being witches and healers (and burned at the stake back in the witch-hunting time) and the people I'm meeting in these dreams might be witches that are equally powerful that knew someone from my family in the past. As far as explanations go at the moment, it's the one that makes the most sense.

I'm not sure where to go or who to talk to about this without sounding like an idiot, but does anyone here have any theories or ideas what this might be?

I have, in some of my dreams, a consistent dreamscape with a few persistent residents; not all of my dreams wind up there, but a substantial fraction of the significant ones are in that particular place.

I personally parse it as... for lack of better terminology a personal astral space, through which I can access other portions of the greater spirit world.  The regular residents are among my allies and soul-aspects, the landscape is attuned to my sense of self.
