Btw I live in oklahoma in the US. Part of the Trail of Tears for Native Americans. There's a lot of history here. There was a lot of murder. The whole state, but especially where I live, has the highest concentration of any of the five civilized tribes. We are mostly Choctaw and Cherokee around here but there are plenty more. My point in this is that there has been so much sadness, heartache, murder, sickness, etc over such a long period of time that this place is saturated with spirits. Almost anyone can tell you ghost stories. There are places where "everyone knows that place is haunted".

You do know what a complex racist history the term "Five Civilized Tribes" has and why it's offensive to many of us, right?

I guess not. Not like you do I'm guessing. I was raised here though and I AM Native American. I also know that the term "five civilized tribes" is a politically accepted term. I also know my area is almost completely run by Choctaw Nation. And Chickasaw has almost all the rest of it. Around here being a "registered" Native American gets you a lot of perks. I also know dozens of full blood native Americans that would not be offended by that term. I've no wish to argue.

You know, I think I need to elaborate.

Firstly, your mother having schizophrenia is a REAL THING. It is a chronic HEALTH issue that she has. Meaning, it's about as serious as having heart disease. Based off of your statement alone, if your mother thinks she is "crazy" (Which, by the way, she is not. See the HEALTH ISSUE statement above), then it would mean to me that she has some sort of awareness that what she is seeing is not IRL. At least she can identify that. Your lack of compassion for somebody who goes through something as traumatic as seeing demons everywhere, quite frankly disgusts me.

Also, making a slew about her religion is NOT okay. You are on an interfaith board, which means some tolerance for other religions is important, and that includes religions that are NOT under the pagan umbrella term. It doesn't mean you can casually talk about other faiths as if it's all "OMG look at the religion that's not pagan. Pffft."

I'm also going to say, if your therapist is more interested in being amazed at your "experiences" then they are examining if the experiences are a significant problem, then you need a new one. Because, you'll never improve with somebody like that. IF you even want to improve.

I have issues with Jehovah witnesses for a reason. Without going into them all, the biggest one is that that religion is indirectly responsible for the death of my grandmother. I will always hate that religion for that reason.

My mother is also bipolar. This actually runs in our family. This is something I can see in her.

I have been on medicine and it makes things worse for me. I don't like being loopy or slow or slurring my speech. So I'm not taking it. There's not a tumor. I've had several cat scans and MRIs already. They checked for that. I've had tons of medical issues. This stuff started when I was a kid. Sometimes repressed memories leak through and I remember things. However I was never diagnosed with depression or anything like it until a few years ago. And I've seen plenty of drs. Also I've been on at least five different anti depressants and none of them changed anything.

Also, I never intentionally "take on" anyone. Most of the time I don't even see the name of the commenter. I just reply with whatever comes out of my fingers. And nothing I say is a lie to my knowledge.

I don't really care what you wish or who you think is okay with white people deciding which Native American people are civilized and which aren't. I'm affiliated with two nations, one of which the federal government didn't even recognize at the time of my birth and which has fewer than 3000 members. We don't get the perks.

And I'm sorry you didn't understand this, but whether the place is haunted or not has jack to do with whether there might be something in your head either causing it or making it worse. When you hear hoofbeats, it's probably horses, not zebras.

Oh, and most antidepressants are contraindicated for schizophrenic patients *because* they make things worse. This? Is wrong tool.

Your hatred is your own, no matter what your reasoning. We can sympathize, but being on an interfaith board means you are expected to use restraint when speaking of religions you have any kind of hatred/dislike for.

I don't care what experiences you may have gone through, making comments against another religion in snide does not advocate religious tolerance, in any way.

No such thing. You may be thinking of how some people aren't identified/diagnosed as having ADHD until adulthood, but these are still people who have always had it.

What are the most noticeable symptoms of adult ADHD? I read that they differ slightly from children. My brother had ADD as a child (possibly still does?) and my son (10) has ADHD, my daughter (7) is borderline ADHD. So it appears that this runs in our family.

Not possibly. They used to think that people outgrew ADHD, but not so much. What tends to happen is that some people develop coping mechanisms to function in a world not wired for them. It doesn't mean that ADHD goes away.

Thank you. I see my therapist tomorrow and I will be asking about this.

About a year and a half ago I asked my regular doctor about this and he told me not to worry about it. I actually made an appointment with him that day because I was not doing good in my classes because I couldn't concentrate while studying and then during testing I couldn't recall what I had studied and kept having wandering thoughts. He brushed it off and I thought I was overreacting.

The next semester I failed my classes for the same reason. Maybe I wasn't wrong. I also changed doctors. It seemed like he never listened when I talked.

It can indeed run in families - it does in mine.

You might find this to be a useful starting point.

Thank you. I mixed up my appointment days (nothing new there) and my appointment is actually tomorrow. So I'm going to print that checklist off and take it with me. I went to one website last night (not webmd) and it divided symptoms up into categories. I had about 90% of those symptoms. If nothing else he'll have a list of stuff I'm dealing with.

I'm going to be upset with my old doctor if I am diagnosed with ADHD and I could have been receiving treatment if he had not brushed it off almost two years ago.

Thank you for the information. I appreciate it.

Welcome to being a woman with (suspected) ADHD. I was diagnosed when I was 7. I still have to fight doctors to acknowledge and treat it, insurance companies to cover it, etc. My doctor changed the dosage on my medication, and I'm *still* fighting to get it, because my insurance company requires a prior authorization to give ADHD meds to people over 18. I've been unmedicated for eight days now, and I'm kind of a wreck. I'm not trying to put you off checking into it, by any stretch of the imagination. If you feel like there's an issue there, please do get it checked. But I don't want you to be surprised when you still have to fight for the care you need, because there's a large chunk of the medical community that thinks of ADHD as something only rambunctious little boys have.
