Do you have a source for this? All sounds like an episode of Supernatural to me.

nope, just web surfing mainly. talking to folks who "have in encountered them and lived". also sometimes the discovery channel/history channel has a special on things like this.

I'd hate to say it, but neither of those are credible sources, unless the web surfing took you to an article in a peer-reviewed journal of some kind.

I think most of crypto-zoölogy is nonsense.
While I'd love it if creatures like Nessie, Bigfoot, Yeti, mermaids, Mokele-Mbembe, Thunderbird, Chupacabra etc really existed, I have to side with science - or better, the lack of scientific evidence and/or the scientific impossibility of those creature's excistence.
I do give some latitude to ocean-based cryptids or the ones that supposedly live in very remote and isolated locations where there is little research done but only if the environment can support the needed estimated population.

I'll always be fascinated by cryptids but I am and always will be a sceptic.

I recently told my husband I wanted to become a bigfoot researcher. He responded that there was no money in it. Back to the 9 to 5 for me.

I am actually on the list for the national bigfoot society to validate photos sent in to them. So I am one of the biologists that says its bigfoot or not. There is absolutely NO money in it though. All pictures I have been asked to validate have been american black bears with mange.

Something had to exist at one time for some of these creatures to make it into legend. Its hard to say if they were actually real or not, but no physical evidence has surfaced yet.

i too side with science, if anything can be debunked or duplicated then its not really a myth or paranormal. i only turn up stories though on some of the "cooler" creatures. usually a story of a guy or a guy who knew a guy that encountered the being or beast. i still would love to do my own investigations but my ideas and methods are still deemed to dangerous for me. i do need to look into some stuff before i attempt them

You mean cryptids?  I think they probably exist, just not as flesh-and-blood animals.

I agree with this regarding most cryptids. Megalodons, while I would love to believe they're still swimming around out there, I reserve as being extinct until proven otherwise (and as humans, there are some things that we just are not privy to and perhaps never will be).

Mermaids I classify in the same category as the Fae, real but not on this realm. Same with the majority of other creatures mentioned in lore. Until I see it, how am I to know?

I just kind of go with the flow until I see a scientific journal announce the discovery of a new species. :) Until then, I'm not too worried.

lol, when i drooped my husband at work at 4am the other day, he said, be careful on the way home, to which i said, as long as i dont run into bigfoot i'll be fine. (he works 20 minutes out of town in the country, hence my reply).;)

I'm not willing to say these creatures don't exist, but I'm not about to say they do, either. I would love for (some) of them to be real.

On the note of Mermaids: I personally agree with the manatee theory. However, there is a documentary/mockumentary called "Mermaids: The Body Found" that keeps getting played on Animal Planet and Discovery Channel. I've watched it and while they promote it as true it's really more like "this is a theory" and then continue on as if the theory is true. It's actually really badly done but the theory was interesting, and it was entertaining to evaluate.
