The Gods are calling me back
« on: September 28, 2011, 12:37:35 pm »
I was practicing Celtic Paganism for about a year, and then I really tried to go back to the Christian church, but it just inst working out. I keep feeling a strong pull back to the pagan way. I just feel conflicted on what i should do. If anyone has any advise on this it would be greatly appreciated. I just feel them calling to me in everything i do.

I've a couple of questions for you:

(1) What brought you to Celtic Paganism?
(2) What drove you back to Christianity?

1. The feeling that it gave me, I felt like I was able to be myself for once

2. Probably just wanting to please my family, and thought why not give it another shot

Everything you've said here makes me think you really should just explore your pagan path more rather than try to be Christian. Sure, your family might be happier if you were Christian, but it's not really worth it if you're not happy. And your family should be happy that your happy with whatever path you're on. Like you, I feel a very strong pull towards paganism, although in my case, I just went running towards it and never looked back (but that's because being Christian made me miserable and once I knew what it felt like to be happy, there was no way I could go back). If there's a lot of family issues regarding you being pagan, it might be best just to keep it real quiet and not be very obvious about it as much as possible. Worked well enough for me when I was letting them have some time to adjust to the idea.

Thanks for the advise, my family is very very Christian and the thought of me being a pagan would probably make them go insane. When I practiced it before, I kept it real quite. I will probably do the same again, maybe one day they will accept that which I am.

Family pressures, even if they're not overt, can be tough to overcome.  I'd encourage you to go back to practicing in a way that makes you happy and keep it quiet if you need to.  At this point, telling them might do more harm than good.

Just my $0.02 - YMMV.

I plan of not telling them, because I dont want to do any harm to my family, but I need to do what makes me happy and i feel is the right thing to do. Thanks for the advise Veggiewolf!

I have been in the same place as you, over and over for many years.  I think if its what you keep coming back to, then its probably right for you.  I've tried to do the Catholicism thing for my family, but my heart just is not in it, so I understand where you are coming from. Like the others I say do what feels right for you and keep it quiet for now.

Your answers look a lot like mine would if I went back to Christianity but I have to agree with the others, do what makes you happy. I have to flat not tell my family about my spiritual standing because my dad would literally disown me and have me in counseling sessions in a heart beat...with a catholic church...Not a place I ever want to go... hopefully I will move out soon and can practice freely but till then everything is subtle and hidden.
So keep it quiet if you need to and enjoy your faith!

Yeah I have decided to go with my gut and feeling, and return to my Celtic Pagan roots. I find so much joy in practicing and learning all about my Celtic ancestry and honoring the Gods and Goddesses of the Celts.

I'm glad, It's nice for me to know so many other pagans are dealing with the same/similar family issues I am. If you need to talk I'm a great listener.

That what good about this place is that there is a place we can go and feel comfortable with these problems knowing that we aren't alone in our struggle. I might have to take you up on the talking part, its always good have someone to talk to about this stuff, knowing you really cant talk to you family about it.

Yeah I understand that, most of my real life friends are used to the way my family are and just don't understand because their families are pagan or wicca like them. So it's nice to have somewhere to turn.
