* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Roman Polytheism
« on: May 14, 2013, 07:56:35 pm »
I was wondering if anybody knew of any really good websites or books on Roman Paganism for a beginner. I should say I'm not really interested in reconstructionism, I'm pretty eclectic by nature but I have several Roman deities I'm interested in. I have heard of Nova Roma but from what I understand they are now more of a re-enactment organization than a spiritual group.

If anybody could recommend anything I would really appreciate it.

I'd recommend hitting the antiquities books, hard. Read anything you can on Roman mythology, religion, and deities. The Greek myths help a little, since the Romans ported that over to their religion. But the indigenous Roman gods had their own flavour, and Roman religion was very much its own thing.
Wikipedia's a decent primer; it summarizes a lot and has a great deal of basic info, and copious sources to delve into if you're wanting to know more about how the Romans viewed their mythology and deities.

Even if you're not going into it with a reconstructionist mindset, it is critical to know what the Romans believed and wrote.

I suggest the Cultus Deorum website. It includes a calendar, basic information and a reading list.

Hope it helps!

A couple of good books, which should be easily obtainable:
John Scheid: An Introduction to Roman Religion
Valerie Warrior: Roman Religion: A Sourcebook
 - in the latter you'll find Romans themselves talking about their religion, with short introductory notes discussing the various subjects.
