Pentagram blessing
« on: December 26, 2011, 08:35:21 am »
Hi everyone!

I just came home from Tenerife and I bought myself a pentagram necklace from a marketplace  in El Medano. I would like to bless it somehow, but I don't know how.Any ideas?

In what way? To a particular deity?

Why not just adapt your favorite tool blessing ritual?

That's just the point:This pentagram is my only tool (except for my BoS and shaman drum, which I haven't consecrated) so I don't have any tool blessing ceremonies in my BoS. If you find one online or you have a file that contains a ceremony, please contact me with a private message.

What does your practice normally look like then?

I'm pretty sure the blessing rituals I use wouldn't be a good fit for you, because they presume tools and approaches that don't seem to be part of your path. I might be able to make more suggestions if you shared a little about how you normally work - what does blessing this pentacle mean for you, your comfort level directing and focusing energy, if there's anything you normally use to help you, etc.

[I'm about to be out of town for the weekend, so it may also take me a couple of days to respond]

If you type 'tool blessing ritual' into Google you get pages and pages.  Without knowing the specifics of your path and beliefs there is no way I could choose one to recommend to you, but you could go through them and see how they feel.

I'm not PMing this suggestion because this is a public message board and others may have the same question you do.  They can just read the thread for suggestions and post if they want clarification of anything, instead of having to post the same question in a new thread.

Do you have experience/comfort with directing and focusing energy? (Which, really, is what blessing or cleansing a tool is: you're saying "Here's how you're going to be now.")

In that case, blessing a tool or item is really all about resetting the energy to what you want it to do.

My usual practice is to cleanse the existing energy (if it's been in a store/etc.) before coming into my hands - not because that previous experience of the world is bad, but because it's unknown, and it's easier to start from a clean slate.

(However, if it's an item that has a particular emotional significance, I won't do that, because I want to keep those connections intact - I have a lovely blade I got as a gift from a friend, for example, that had particular significance for her as well, and would not cleanse it that way.)

There are energetic methods of cleansing the energy (basically scraping off the unwanted energy like you'd scrape mud off or shedding hair off a cat, or whatever.) You can also - depending on what the item's made of - place it in a bed of salt crystals, on top of a couple of different kinds of stones (selenite is the common one among people I know, and it's relatively cheap when you can find it), in sunlight or moonlight, dip it in consecrated water, pass it through consecrated incense.

(Consecrated in this case means 'blessed by whatever method you'd use for that': could be by invocation to deity, could be by invocation of the elements, etc.)

Obviously, what method you choose depends partly on the materials - and if there's stones, you need to be careful that the method won't damage them. (Some stones are damaged by immersion in water, metal doesn't do well with salt water, though is usually fine on dry salt for a bit, etc.)

Blessing it is then simply a matter of pouring the energies you want into the piece. You can be relatively general (bless this to my work) or specific (blessing it for a particular purpose - healing, intuition, etc.

Generally, one then seals it - closes off the energy so that it anchors. It's hard to describe this in text: the imagery I use is musical, and involves a full formal cadence bringing the 'song' of the blessing to a conclusion, but I know people who visualise a tap being closed, creating a bubble of blessing around the item, others who look at it like 'painting' the blessing on in a particular colour, etc.
