Having a image of a god for less to no money
« on: January 19, 2013, 01:15:29 am »
I've done this before on other forums because I thought the idea was really great. I also saw this covered on Youtube so I'll give credit to where I first heard about it. Statues cost a ton of money, well maybe a ton of money, and some of them are horrible. Since I don't have the money, at least not yet, for a Loki statue I ran off a image of him from Google and taped him to the wall where my altar is at. Now I have a image of Loki and I only paid for the cost of printing it.

Also, if you can draw, paint, whatever, then you can have one for free. Comments would be great. Let me know what you think of this idea.

The image of Amun that I've used for years is one that I painted (watercolor on canvas).

I'm grateful you started this thread. I have the same issue you have, lack of money for statues. So far, I've made a few statues from clay. The results have been mixed. I've found polymer clay to be the best type of clay for making small statues. Like you I also print images of deities. One time I was lucky enough to find a small statue of a woman holding a dove, surrounded by roses. I've been using this statue as a representation of Aphrodite. That's the only time, though, I've been this lucky.

I have yet to find statues that 'talk' to me correctly - all my 'icons' of the various one's I work with are printed pictures

Even if you HAVE the money to get statues, sometimes the pictures work better because they are much closer to your personal image of them.

I saved up money and paid our NibbleKat to make me a beautiful image of Brighid the Starsmith for my altar. I'd rather commission art very infrequently of a good quality (or find THE PERFECT STATUE) than worry about having a less-than-perfect thing in its place, y'know? My deities have been icon-less for awhile, I don't think they mind.
Maker, though the darkness comes upon me,
I shall embrace the light. I shall weather the storm.
I shall endure.
What you have created, no one can tear asunder.

I agree. I found a lovely image of Loki and he really speaks to me.
