Desire to Learn
« on: May 25, 2016, 08:30:14 am »
I want to learn about Asatru, to decide if it is the right faith for me. I want to learn it's stories, it's ideas, and how to practice it.

I know it pushes the Nine Noble Virtues, and that it's polytheist (I have no problem with either of those things). Yet I want to learn more, so I'm looking for sources I can read and any explanations that you people here can give me.

I was raised Christian, as most Americans are, but I never really felt connected to that. I've bounced around between Christianity, to Deism, and I even investigated Islam for a short time to see if that would fill the gap in my life. It did not. So now I'm looking deeper, and Norse/Germanic Paganism would have been the religion of my ancestors (that is part of the appeal to me).

Good timing! We are just discussing this in the Asatru and Heathenry SIG.

Modern heathenry in general tends to demand a willingness to do your homework, as it were, so my recommendation for new Heathens was to get ahold of several intro texts, read them and compare, and see what things appeal to you.
