annoying buzzing!
« on: August 09, 2011, 04:08:18 pm »
Okay so ever since I was a young child and would go to bed I would hear a buzzing noise. Years after that we took me to a hearing doctor for other things for the past 3 years, and I got my ears cleaned out perfessionaly. They said there was nothing wrong with my ears. They just said I have a hard time processing information. And right now, the buzzing/rining, is still here. I can control it to go up and down, and also sometimes when I focus on energy, or put my hand over a plant, the buzzing gets louder. But the buzzing is usually there 24/hours. and when in front of a computer its really loud. I dont think its my hearing, because then that doctor would have told me there was something wrong. Any suggestions what Im hearing?

Well, I don't know about buzzing from plants or focusing energy.  But many older computer monitors and TV screens, and those flat fluorescent lights they have in office buildings all emit a high-pitched buzzing sound.  You might actually just have really good hearing in the way of picking up high-pitched noises, and that's possibly what you're hearing when you're close to the computer.

Yep. I have a TV that makes me wince every time I change the channel.

There are times when something is turned on I have to leave the room until it warms up. I find that sometimes helps.

 I hear such things, also.
Not to worry, you must have sensitive hearing.

Sounds like tinnitus to me. People associate ringing in the ears with hearing loss, but it's not always the case. some people just have it. I've had it since as far back as I can remember, and it gets a lot worse when I'm stressed. Not only that, but I often have multi-tonal ringing- that tends to show up when I'm really stressed, I've counted five or six different simultaneous tones.

I've also notices that it gets a lot worse when I'm tense. In fact, I know i'm in danger of a really bad tension headache when the ringing gets to a certain loudness, but to some degree I can control the pitch and volume of what I hear.

You don't by any chance also experience visual snow do you?

Hmm. Thanks for posting this. Not sure if it exactly explains what I get, but eh. I seem to get this sometimes (pretty rarely), as well as it appearing within a circle (less snowy, more blackish). I usually get a headache afterwards, too.

From an acupuncture standpoint, high-pitched tinnitus is an effect of - I think it's stagnant chi in the liver channels.

Why do I know this?

I was getting a treatment for I think it was stagnant chi in the liver channels and my high-pitched tinnitus went away. :P

OMG I HAVE THAT!

*ahem* Sorry, I am just excited to find out that it actually has a name and isn't just me being crazy ;)

Back on topic, yeah, I'd say tinnitus too. I get it very occasionally, more ringing than buzzing. I also have sensitive hearing, can hear the TV buzzing when it changes channels, and lights, etc, but if it happens constantly I'd say it was tinnitus rather than sensitive hearing.

Apparently tinnitus can be a symptom of thyroid issues, too.

I also can hear electronics when they're running; I can tell from another room if the TV isn't actually off (the screen might be blank, but it isn't off-off).

There's also some evidence that trigger points in masseter, the lateral pterygoid, sternocleidomastoid, upper fiber trapezius, or cervical paraspinal muscles (usually masseter). Do you have any issues like jaw pain, grinding or clenching your teeth at night, or toothaches that aren't from cavities?
