Unexpected Vision While Praying
« on: July 31, 2014, 06:43:57 am »
So, last night I was praying to Brighid, asking for help or guidance with some stuff when an odd image popped into my head and I'm wondering if any of you have any ideas.

I know that it's entirely possible that this means nothing but the image I got was so clear and so separate from anything that I was thinking about. It feels significant but I don't understand it.

I was asking Brighid for help/ guidance in dealing with some body image stuff I have going on just now as well as with my efforts to be healthier and stronger. The image that jumped into my head was of a skull. There was a snake slithering between the eye sockets of the skull and a crow or raven perched on top of it (I can't be sure which - I always get those two mixed up!)

I'm interested in hearing any ideas that you might have. I believe that Beighid has sent me images before but I don't understand this one.

Thanks,
Rocquelaire

Brighid is connected with snakes in a somewhat ambiguous way, as in the prayer: "this is the feast day of Brighid, the serpent will come from the knoll, I will not harm the serpent, the serpent will not harm me."

Snakes are cthonic symbols, skulls and ravens are associated with death of course, but ravens also with prophesy and wisdom. Over all, I'd be inclined to interpret these images as "the wisdom of impermanence."

The snake/serpent is related to rebirth and renewal.  The shedding of the skin can be a symbol of your new appearance and a new self-image.  The skull is both the symbol of your true "hidden" self as well as the seat of your brain/consciousness. The snake and skull in combination could be about changing your thought patterns and self-concept in order to reach your goal.  The raven has several meanings (including an association with death) but one is as the carrier of a a solemn message.  You might choose to see it as a motivation to make physical changes in order to avoid serious health problems.

Ok, so I don't want to project my own things onto you, but I'm wondering how much (if any) contact you have with The Morrigan?

I ask because the two Ladies often "tag-team" people, and with me I know for a fact They work in tandem. The Morrigan sends me Brighid's way and vice versa, depending on what I'm supposed to be doing/what I need.

I also ask because part of the Morrigan's work with me is about reclaiming my self-sovereignty, and that is directly related to body image (along with a HOST of other things). There's a lot of stuff I do with Her regarding sovereignty of the body mind and soul, and reclaiming that sovereignty in a world that tells me my body is worthless (because it's too fat, too disabled, too sick, whatever).

The image you described definitely made me think of tM (I personally associate snakes with Her, and, well, skulls and crows and ravens -- yep), so I figured I'd ask if you think it's a possibility.

I realize I could totally be projecting my own tM stuff onto and I apologize if that's the case, but I wanted to mention it in case it is a message from Brighid to talk to tM or something. :)

Others interpreting this for you is a lot like trying to do dream interpretation for another person. You're going to get sixteen different meanings depending on people's cultural/personal understandings of the symbols. (For example, I see snakes as representing nwyfre energy/the life force, and would interpret a vision of a snake coiling up towards the crown of my head as something to do with advice to work on the highest aspects of spiritual energy in my life).

So. What do YOU associate with snakes (and crows)? If you start there, and think through your personal associations in the same way you would with a dream, you're going to make much more sense of it for yourself. Sometimes I do paper-based brainstorming around what a symbol means to me - trying to get into subconscious personal associations I have around a symbol. Good luck intepreting!

This idea actually occurred to me too, as I was falling asleep, shortly after the image appeared but the thing is that I have no contact with the Morrigan at all. In fact, pretty much all that I know about Her is what I've seen here on TC so I wasn't even sure if those symbols definitely made sense for her (although I was fairly sure they did).

It sounds like the work you're doing with her is exactly what I need to be doing. Maybe Brighid is telling me to talk to tM about this stuff. I guess I better start researching Her and see what happens.

Thanks, Morag.

Glad I could help! Like I said, I didn't want to project my own things on you, but that was the very first thought I had and just felt I should mention it just in case. I'm really glad it was useful to you, and I hope your research on tM is fruitful. :)
