true names/ secret names

I read a book once on the power of words and in particular the written word. There was a quote inside that you reminded me of I can't recall it exactly but it was in essence: " The moving hand writes and having writ, moves on. Not all thy piety or wit shall lure it back to conceal even half a line, nor all thy tears wash out a word of it."  It was in " write your own magic" if i remember correctly.

I recently came across the concept of a true, or secret name. For years I have practiced "re-naming" things or sometimes even myself depending on what I am doing. Magically I believe this can be a powerful thing and I try to do it carefully. Does anyone else practice naming as a magical tool?
 How do you feel about the nature of names? Do objects and or people change to fit the name or does the nature of the name mold to the object or person?

 
I'm really not into the philosophical discussion thing that a lot of people in this forum seem to be familiar with, so I can't really say the reasoning behind why I do many of the things I do.

That being said, I do sometimes rename items, animals, or phenomena. Sometimes I lapse into a trance and it comes to me, and from that point on it becomes the permanent identification.

As for personal 'magical' names. I've had a couple. When one comes to me via trance, it sticks until I 'outgrow' it. Basically, there came a time after a decade or so that my previous identity ceased to be.. my identity. And then I was given a new one.
