Tips for connecting with divine energy?
« on: September 28, 2011, 09:33:40 pm »
Hey Guys,
I need to become more connected with mostly Feminine/Goddess Energy. I am looking for some tips and tricks on how to connect more to... well, everything.
More importantly how can I stay connected to these things?
I often unconsciously disconnect myself, un-ground myself, get stuck in my head, wrapped up in negative thinking... etc.
I need some form of routine, but what kind of things do I do?
any tips of any kind would be appreciated!

Have you thought about a daily devotional? Everyone is different, but my devional was simple. What I used to do was every morning I would like a tea light candle and have an informal conversation with my gods. Sometimes I would just say thank you for a good night sleep and ask for guidence during my day, at other times I would rant about my husband, and other times I would just be quiet and try to feel the energy of the Divine. Do what you feel is right. We each donnect in a different way. If you would like more example of other people's daily devotional, I can share some more.

Mediation is also a great tool. It doesn't have to be just sitting in your bedroom focusing on your breath, although that is a great place to start. Try going outside and sitting under a tree, just feeling the natural energy around you. One of my friend's favorite meditation for this time of year is to cover herself in leaves while lying on the ground. You could also take a moon lit walk in a park or the woods, walking and moving mediations have always worked for me.

I hope these help you. I know what it feels like to feel disconnected, we have all been there from time to time.

Personally, being able to connect with that energy would require you to detach from your physical self, in which you are going to be bound by nothing.  And with that ability, you can be working in another state where you can probably communicate with some divine force at work.

It would be hard unless of course you can concentrate that deep. And using tools like music, scent could help you detach faster.

My favorite authors who write about daily practice are T. Thorn Coyle and Dianne Sylvan. (Particularly in Evolutionary Witchcraft and The Circle Within, respectively. I work on soul alignment and centering throughout the day, particularly based on Thorn's work and the work of another Feri teacher named Valerie Walker. (Although Feri and its offshoots don't have a monopoly on this work - Israel Regardie writes about something similar in The Middle Pillar.)

And staying centered is *hard*. I've noticed an improvement in myself over years, but that's over *years* of work. And *no one* gets it perfectly.

I also connect to my deities briefly throughout the day, with prayers and offerings. Ultimately though, I don't find it useful to be in constant bliss and union with the Divine throughout my day. I often say that "the unseen has a part in my conversations" and it's true and valuable, but I also want to make sure that I'm present when I'm talking to my friends in the physical world, and that I pay attention to physical reality. (I like the comments in this thread about something similar.

This one is more of a YMMV, but I've also found that at least for me, connecting to "generic" Beings doesn't work as well as connecting to specific deities/Beings with characteristics and personalities I can recognize and form a relationship with. (I also think there's a good chance that these anthropomorphic forms are what deities "put on" to communicate with humans.) I've found that this also seems to be the case with my own divine spark, my God Soul. So instead of trying to connect with "Feminine/Goddess Energy", you might try reaching out to specific goddesses that resonate with you or that you find interesting, or even that you feel a call from. (Although that last one isn't really necessary.) Again, YMMV.

I second the meditation. It doesn't have to be complex. What works for me is just sitting in the quiet (after my husband and kids are asleep) and staring into a candle. The candle helps me focus and ignore the distractions in the room. I just let whatever thoughts (of my own - worries, problems, etc.) come into my head come, and then let them slide away. It doesn't take as long as it used to to clear my head. Then I sit there until I've sat there long enough. It varies day to day, depending on how tired I am or what I'm hoping to accomplish, but I always feel better afterwards.

I've also noticed that if I skip a day or two, I feel that disconnect that you were talking about. The other thing I do is carry a stone in my pocket.  It serves as a reminder to keep myself in check.

Thirded. I also LOVE candle meditation. The way I've been told is to stare at the candle, but not focus on a point. So try to absorb the image of the candle as a whole.

I've been doing it with some cliche celtic music in the background and have had more success lately with meditating. I'm starting to do this after I wake up, then before I go to bed.

I hear a lot of people say that they get distracted too easily to meditate, but it's just something you have to practice with and try different methods. It's a process.

Certain smells help bring you into a better mood. I especially love meadowsweet. If you could squeeze the essence out of happiness and bottle it into a perfume, I think it would end up smelling similar to meadowsweet. I'm trying to find something extremely calming to smell during meditation.

Also, I feel like a hippie recently for saying this an absurd amount of times, but daily affirmations have been great for me. Telling yourself something positive multiple times in a row,out loud. One of the things I say for example is,"Every day in every way I'm getting better and better" It's a bit awkward at first, but it gets better. Better and better. (lol)
