Spirits of the flowers?
« on: May 01, 2012, 02:08:03 am »
For the past few days I've been listening to "The Song of Purple Summer" (Spring Awakening's final song) and taking a good look at all the flowers I pass by on the way to work/school/home. I know they've always been there, but I keep feeling like couldn't fully comprehend them before.

But I already know that I've "woken up" and I'm passing into a new spring of my life, since I went through about a month of constant epiphany. The weird part happens whenever I get to this line:

"And all shall know the wonder: I will sing the song of purple summer."

Doesn't matter whether I sing it or I listen on my iPod, but when the song gets to that point, I feel something in the flowers surge up with this "YEEEEEES" vibe. They tend to feel louder when I'm actually singing, and if I'm not singing already, I get this "Go for it!" vibe, so... I do. XD

It can't be my imagination because despite no other human being with me, it feels like an audience is responding to what I'm doing, and that's a hard kind of energy to manufacture alone. Also, to confirm my suspicions: I tried singing this song to the peace-lilies at home, budding plants, and the trees near my apartment--nothing "responds" unless it's in full blossom.

It's really nice, don't get me wrong, it's just that I've never actually felt plants' spirits before. I follow the Morrigan from the Irish pantheon, and she's connected to fertility, so would this be caused by her somehow?

I'm not familiar enough with Celtic mythology to comment on that, but I do know that in Northern European traditions that this personality you recognize, interact with, and are possibly influenced by would be considered the personality of the landwight, or, more tribally, a local god.

If you're comfortable with the idea, you could leave offering gifts at the site and see what type of relationship develops.
The pace of progress in artificial intelligence (I’m not referring to narrow AI) is incredibly fast. [...] The risk of something seriously dangerous happening is in the five year timeframe. 10 years at most.--Elon Musk

I am in the camp that is concerned about super intelligence," [Bill] Gates wrote. "First the machines will do a lot of jobs for us and not be super intelligent. That should be positive if we manage it well. A few decades after that though the intelligence is strong enough to be a concern. I agree with Elon Musk and some others on this and don\'t understand why some people are not concerned."

My first instinct was to leave offerings, yeah, but the responses don't seem tied to a specific place--it's literally any blooming plants I pass by, and they're not always the same ones. I live in California of the USA, so I'm thinking the entity that's listening to me is a general "earth spirit" as opposed to "the spirits of this particular plant."

Problem is, the majority of the plants in question are very clearly cultivated ones, so offering-wise I can't do too much, no matter how much I'd like to.

I AM in the San Francisco Bay Area where oaks are everywhere, though, and oaks are THE sacred tree in Celtic Reconstruction. Maybe I can tell one of the oaks to... thank the others for listening? There's an oak in front of the next apartment building that I can talk to, and I can always go to the park if I decide to leave an offering after all.

Offerings to plants are usually among the easiest things.
Most of them prefer some water. ;)
\'You had to repay, good or bad. There was more than one type of obligation.
That’s what people never really understood.….Things had to balance.
You couldn’t set out to be a good witch or a bad witch. It never worked out for long.
All you could try to be was a witch, as hard as you could.\'

Or even just talking to them, gotta remember that plant life breathes in CO2 and gives off O2 - so breathing on them gives them the CO2 they like and rewards us all with more O2 which we can't survive without

You've stumbled on my secret tribute, which I mostly use with trees (for which I have a special fondness...now I've exposed myself as a tree-ist...damn):  a blown kiss with just the intent you mention.

Yeah, I went the "screw it, I'll just say thanks" route for now.

General response from the neighbors' roses was "Well, yeah. :)"

That makes me smile. After being caught talking with a wild plant or two in my time, I began to look around first to make sure of privacy. And then I went the "screw it" route too and now a I just tell people who inquire what I'm doing. They usually don't ask twice. ;)
