Perhaps A Blasphemous Question
« on: September 05, 2014, 04:57:10 am »
Do your God/desses control how they interact with you?

Or are you in control of which deities you allow into your circle?
If you understand, things are just as they are.  If you do not understand, things are just as they are.

For me, the answer is, it depends.  On the deity.

Right now, I've ignored Pele fore the last few years, but all of a sudden She is charging at me and it doesn't matter if I've ignored Her for the last few years.  Pele has made herself known again in my life and, as is her wont, is making changes through fire and brimstone.

If I told Her now to stop, she'd just laugh and say, "You're telling me?"  Pele doesn't stop for anything, except from her own choice.

With other deities, I've been the one in charge.  "Can I come in?"  "Would you like to follow me?"

Nope.

I've found, however, that Pele doesn't ask.  She doesn't even tell.  She just does.
If you understand, things are just as they are.  If you do not understand, things are just as they are.

Like all social interactions, it depends.

Some wait for overtures.  Some charge in.  Some simply /do what they need to do/ and if you're in the way, too bad.

I can set rules of /this is how to approach me/ and /this is the only way I will listen/ but .. it's not a balance of power.  Gods can CHOOSE to listen and respect those boundaries.  Or they can choose to not.  Then it's up to me.

Both and neither. :)

Some deities wait for an invite. Some try to contact me. Others do not respond at all (perhaps they just are not interested in me).

I am, however, in complete control of how I respond. If a deity I have no interest in tries to barge into my life, I can ask said deity to leave me alone -- and just ignore the deity if it refuses to do so.

I think it goes both ways. We can choose to approach or to reject each other, although rejecting a god may be a bit harder than it rejecting you.

I really haven't had much contact with other deities than Pele, so I was curious.  I did feel the touch of what I think were local "lesser" deities (I don't know if that's a PC term for any of the gods!) when I lived on an island, but it was just that--a touch, a recognition of their presence, but I felt no compulsion from them for anything.

Pele always shows up when it's time for a dramatic change--death and renewal.  Don't get me wrong--she gives me strength.

Thanks for y'all's answers.  Was just really curious if deities listen to us or whether we're in trouble if we don't listen to them.

Best~

Both, but more of the former than the latter. I had a thread on something like this asking "what if a god won't take no for an answer?" but basically with me, I have one entity allowed "inside" and everyone else has to stand "outside." This was a mutual agreement on our part, and She does Her bit to enforce it. She's much, much better at keeping unwanted things out than I am!
KARMA: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I would day both. Some of the deities I interact with basically contacted me, and others I have contacted. It's basically a different situation with each deity.

I guess I don't usually think of our interaction in terms of control; I feel a very egalitarian relationship with deity in the sense that our being very different doesn't mean, to me or the deities with whom I work, that we need to be engaged in a hierarchy.  The deity is of the unmanifest reaching toward manifestation; I am manifest reaching toward unmanifestation.  For me, everything about our interaction is a compromise of these two forces and a mixture of the physical and the ineffable.  It isn’t that I’m trying to assert my will against another’s; I am trying to meld my will with another’s in a productive way.

I only control what I say to them and to who. Everything else is up in the air, though I cannot hope to control one of the holiest ones.

Depends on the deity.  It's sort of like IRL with people who come into it--some situations, you can't control who comes in (a new coworker your boss hires, for example), some you can (you can choose to go to that Meetup event and meet new people).  And each relationship is different--such as my friendship with my friend Mary is not the same as my friendship with Jane, etc...I take them as they come.

As others have said, it applies to me also... both. For the longest time I have either been ignoring or am being ignored by Krishna; on the other hand Thor has grabbed me in a headlock and is pulling me. ;) Krishna may be saying "hey it's all good, I'm down with it 'cuz you're expanding your spirituality".
