I am curious to see what other's can't work without...

If you're just talking ritual tools and stuff, there's really nothing I can't work without. All my stuff could be replaced, and I don't really need it to do spiritual work. It's helpful, and it makes life easier, but I can function without it.

The only non-pet, non-husband, non-laptop thing I'd want to grab if I had to evacuate would be the teddy bear I've had since I was a baby. He's much lighter than my 4 inch binder Book of Shadows.

Piecemeal is cheaper - the pre-packaged kits tend to run high.

Thanks very much for the list. I have all this stuff in my car, so in the case of a disaster I'd be set if I was near it. (I have to carry it all around as part of my SAR kit.)

I also recently put together what I call a 'call-out' bag, which is basically a travel kit. Shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, eyeglasses, contact case, ect.  Stuff I'll need if I'm called out on a search and have to stay the night but don't want to waste time rounding up.

In my CERT class they recommended tossing a couple comfort items into your bug-out bag. Instant coffee, tea bags, a pack of cards. Things that aren't necessary but would be nice to have (and are small and lightweight) if you are stuck in a shelter somewhere.

Also, bleach can be used to purify water if you can't use/don't have iodine.

A candle or some kind of fire.

You should learn primitive fire making skills. It is important to not only read about these things, but to try them as well. It is difficult to describe a primitive skill to someone, and have them learn it. Most stuff like this is far harder than it seems at first glance. When I was a kid (13 or 14) I built a fire bow, It took me several weeks of trying before I got it to work. I could get lotsa smoke, but no fire.
