Theology in unexpected places
« on: April 11, 2013, 04:40:54 pm »
So I was at a meeting today where a Syrian activist spoke about the protests there, and how early on, revolutionaries at the protests would offer fresh water and flowers to security officers and police, and it struck me how, in Kemetic terms, this could be seen as an attempt to feed the kas of the security personnel. That is, enforce that part of the soul shaped by and involved in human relationships, and give a soul to those who are lacking in that department.

Similarly, I've thought before about Christmas, and how it is an ancestor/ka festival, and how the function of gift giving in reinforcing the bonds of community by feeding each other's kas. This means I suddenly feel a religious obligation to give Christmas gifts.

Thus, I end up with the theology of gift giving. Certainly not the first thing I would have thought of when it comes to theology - why and how do we give gifts. Nor would I have expected to come to that while discussing the political situation in Syria.

What are times/places/subjects where theology popped up unexpectedly for you, and how has it influenced your actions?
