I'm not sure. Maybe the dying itself is and always was a part of the god's story/self, and the before and after are merely aspects of a whole.

I guess the followup concept is, is a Story a set, single thing that is part of a god, or that a god is part of, or is a Story change itself? XD

I think I watched an anime about that once. Something with a duck doing ballet.

I have not actually seen Princess Tutu so I'll have to take your word for it.

So what conclusions did the duck reach?

That she must come to terms with how important it is to sacrifice an aspect of herself to save what she cares about most.  The sacrifice permanently limits her appearance and abilities.  However, it reveals who and what she is at the core of herself, and that the appearances and abilities were nothing more than trappings... an illusion.  In the end, she exemplified the very raw essence of herself.

It's not far off from the suggestion that gods may undergo appearance changes either willingly or via sacrifice.  The story would suggest, though, that our knowledge and understanding may grow and those parts of ourselves will change, but that the true self stays the true self and is influenced by the whole.

Within the rest of the story line you have a multi-layered question of who the true story teller is and whether other's have the power to change their own story.

Everything we know about our world changes. It is one of the most central aspect of our would. So do the gods and goddesses also change with time. It seems that the Hebrew god did as their god went from a god that one could not look upon and in earlier writings to a more personal god in later writings - to a human god in the branch that became Christianity. So do all gods and goddesses change over time?

I have a feeling I'm going to catch some flak for this, but I believe that deities can change/grow/evolve over time, and speaking from personal experience, I have a strong suspicion that at least some deities *cough*Loki*cough* enjoy taking advantage of popular culture to stay relevant and gain followers, though I will acknowledge that it might not be a real, fundamental change on their parts so much as them just altering how they approach or interact with new followers.

I don't think they change so far that they no longer resemble the gods as we've come to know them through the mythologies, but I do think that they are every bit as capable of adapting to the flow of time as humans are. I don't think they change nearly as fast as humans do, but I think at the very least, they are capable of accepting that humans are a very fast-changing species, and are capable of adapting to that.

No. Whenever there is need, they give birth to new Gods.
