Numinism
« on: July 10, 2011, 03:26:40 am »
I've been searching recently for my Pagan path to follow. Out of interest, I took the Pagan traditions selector quiz. After answering the questions, my #1 Pagan tradition came up as Numinism. I had never heard of the term before. After a google search I got onto a website dedicated to Numinism, the page looked a little old. After reading over it, it seems something I might be interested in, it seems to me like a non-Religio Romana Roman faith. But I was just wondering if anybody had any experience with Numinism or knew anything about it?

I suspect he knows about that old thread (as he started it) and is simply trying to restart it on the new board. :)

Randall is correct, I was well aware of that I had posted it on the other old forum. However the question was unable to continue due to the forum being moved.

My friend actually started looking into this. What I've learned from her is basically the belief of twin forces. Yin and Yang and such, Mother Earth and Heavenly Father type thing. You attune with the cycles of nature and the seasons of the year and recognize God in everything and everyone. And you honor the spirit of things, places, events. Its really a great practice, you are taught you are part of a big family and everyone is your sibling. No matter your race, sexuality, gender. She is part of a family (sort of coven type thing) and they do community service and a variety of things. She was having a really hard time and went through a lot. Shes doing so much better and Im positive this has saved her life.

I looked into Numinism some years ago when I got into Paganism. I came across the same site and like you I found it interesting, basically because I had an interest in the Roman religion but could not be bothered with Nova Roma. I began to practice it and was quite active on the now defunct Numinism forum. However upon looking into it a bit deeper I found it to be simply a form of Roman Wicca without the magic component and fell out of love with it very quickly. The rituals are long and the pantheon is very confusing and it was generally spiritually unsatisfying. I found out that a guy in U.S. made up the religion in the mid 1990s. He simply took bits and pieces from Wicca, Shintoism and the Ancient Roman religion and mixed them together. Despite what the website may tell you, there is very little historical base to it at all. Back in the 1990's it only had a very small following and has only a handful of followers today. My advice, look elsewhere.
