If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

raising a pagan girl?
« on: June 07, 2014, 04:47:50 am »
]Hi, my name is Gayl. I am raising my grand-daughter and would like to share and learn how to raise a pagan child. I raised 3 sons with no real religious upbringing, now I have found raising a girl is a lot different, I would like her to know the harmony of a nature based religion.

I was raised without a religion. My husband and I haven't discussed how to present religion to our sons. He is Agnostic, yet holding on to the Christian precepts out of habit. He insists that he doesn't want our sons indoctrinated, but my fear is that if we don't teach them something they'll learn it from someone else. I don't hide my books or other resources and they can ask me any questions. They see my altar and know that isn't a place for them to set things. I think you should just make your house a comfortable home for your child. Answer questions, tell stories, go on nature walks, do all the things you did before but give them pagan names: Yule instead of Christmas. I heard the the book "Circle Round" is good book for children. I haven't looked at it yet so I don't know if it is for little children or for expecting parents. I wish I could be more help, but I'm just starting out. Good luck.

Welcome to TC!

I was raised Christian, and I'm sort of glad I was, and sort of wish I wasn't- it's a bit of a long story.

I'd suggest you not aim to raise her pagan, but that you be pagan around her. Don't hide what you are and what you do and what you believe. Answer her questions, include her if she wants to be included.

Also, one thing that would have made my choice to become pagan a lot easier would be the knowledge that other religions are good as well, there isn't only one path; if she starts showing interest in other religions, encourage that. Make clear to her that you aren't trying to make her pagan, you're just practising your religion and she is more than welcome to join in, or find something else. (Even Christianity. If she's happy, that's what matters). Make sure she knows there are other paths out there. Don't judge her if she chooses to take one in the future.

Nothing works for everyone after all, right?

I hope you find what you're looking for here!
