Pagan Homeschooling Resources - Hogwarts Homeschooling
« on: September 14, 2015, 02:49:54 pm »
Hey all! I just wanted to let you know about a new resource for Pagan families I've started.

Some friends and I have started a forum, called Hogwarts Homeschooling, aimed at providing resources about homeschooling and Pagan education to parents. We've been working on it hard, and registration is now open and free!

The various goals of Hogwarts Homeschooling are:

  • To share resources such as online learning sources, best books, tutorials, etc. for homeschooling families
  • To share resources for youth-appropriate education about Pagan-specific topics, such as gods and goddesses, spellwork, herbology, etc.
  • To build a complete curriculum around a Hogwarts/Harry Potter theme to interest children and entertain them in their home studies
  • To provide a place for Pagan homeschooled youth to meet and mingle
  • To provide a place for Pagan homeschooling parents to meet and mingle
  • To share information about homeschooling administrivia, such as legal requirements in different states, available non-religious or Pagan-friendly homeschooling groups, etc.

We already have a lot of resources available, and are adding more quite speedily. We have a special restricted area that is not public, specifically for youth to meet and chat in a safe environment. We are also hard at work building a library of resources for youth and parents to use!

Feel free to go, sign up, read the rules, and post -- right now we are open to all. I am the primary admin for the Hogwarts Homeschooling board, so please let me know if you have any problems or would like to know more. I'm really excited about it!! :D:

Plagiarism is the act of passing off another's original ideas or work as your own. But I am in no way trying to pass Rowling's ideas off as my own, nor am I making any money off of them. This instead falls into the same realm as most fan writing and fan art.

 Do you have any idea how many virtual Hogwarts setups have existed out there over the last two decades?

I'm petty sure Rowling even once stated that no pagans went to Hogwarts? :ashamed:

To folks replying on this thread... I posted this a year and a half ago and someone else is running the group I was posting about now. It was never a virtual Hogwarts; nor was it ever intended to make any special statement about Harry Potter, Paganism, or homeschooling, but was (and still is) a forum for homeschooling parents to share materials and methods for incorporating Pagan and magical studies into their homeschooling curricula. The Harry Potter angle is just one that seems to work for a lot of kids. The forum is still up, and they've got a Facebook group that's lively too. If you click on the links, you'll see what it's about. But since I'm not part of the group myself anymore, I'm going to go ahead and unsubscribe from this thread. If I could delete the original post I would, but neither editing nor deleting is an option on it for me.

Just a staffly note to clarify two things that might help:

The forum rules here note we don't delete or edit posts (barring specific and very rare things like legal issues or identifying private info being posted), since it destroys the existing conversation and information available.

We also don't mind people replying to old threads, as Doc did here, but we do suggest that it's a good idea to see how old the thread is, and take that into consideration (i.e. in a thread from over a year ago, people may no longer be reading the board, their situation may have changed, etc.)

Information about when someone last logged into the board is available in the sidebar profile if you're viewing the forum on the web, and it's less visible but still accessible if you click through to someone's profile on Tapatalk. We especially suggest checking this before spending a lot of time writing a reply that's a detailed answer specific to an older question, since the poster may no longer be active or the specific details may have changed a lot.

(If anyone has more questions about this, the Board Questions forum is a good place for them.)

I didn't think it was; I was just countering to Doc's assumption that 'Hogwarts' is a copyrighted term with a reminder that many communities have worn that name with impunity. I hope yours keeps doing well. :)
