What a fucking joke. I hate when people think they can speak for ME as a tax-payer especially when it comes to using such faux concern as a way of terrorizing fellow citizens. Because these type of motherfuckers ARE terrorists and the sooner more people call these assclowns out for what they are, the sooner communities can rally together to put a stop to this behavior.

I think it is pretty much the same mind-set. "We are better than group X for (generally nonsensical) reason Y, therefore X must be tormented until they go away -- or at least accept that their place in the world is well below us."

Ah, so it wasn't likely to be conservatives or Tea Party types, it is just as likely to be a false flag op done by an Obama supporter.

So what part of the law do you think they have broken?  Presuming they got the information from public records, probably not much can be done - unless you think that putting such information in print is grounds for arresting newspaper editors.

You aren't wrong. It's much easier to focus on so called benefit cheats and upset a minority than focus on the really big issues and upset the bigger applecart.

I think what also upsets me about this is how easily these kinds of people forget how much THEY benefit from tax-payer dollars but seem to find other people's usage of such somehow less worthy.

I ran into an individual with a similar mindset at a Libertarian symposium. He was going on and on about "welfare moochers" and people abusing the system because they claim to have mental illnesses (He wasn't so much against those with physical disabilities, but he believed mental illness was just something made up so people didn't have to work.).

Bear in mind his kids attended a public school in a state that pretty much taxes you to breathe even if you paid for the damn air outright. He also lives in one of the richest counties in America and this wealth comes directly from government agency hiring; government agencies partially funded by wait for it...American tax dollars. But that's different right? He's not a moocher at all because he works right? Never mind that many people using government benefits are part of the class of working poor who somehow have earned the derision of a bunch of feckless hacks who feel themselves entitled to god knows what.

And it all boils down to not having to point the finger at oneself. Because he, AND I, are making money off of the American tax payer and if government assistance provided even HALF the funds to aiding the citizens who need it the most as it does to defense contracting and financial institutions? We might be able to build systems and programs that help people become more self-reliant while enabling them to exercise their latent talents for the betterment of themselves and their communities.

Okay, rant over.

I just get very pissed off about this kind of shit.

People have A LOT of fucking nerve. For real.

I think it is much more likely to be a Tea Party/conservative nut job. Emphasis on the "nut job".

They don't have to be breaking a law to be terrorists, in that they are deliberately inspiring terror in people and causing them to fear for their lives.  I mean, what else do you call it?

It doesn't have to be illegal to be flat-out ghastly.

Ghastly is a good word.

By saying lots of things are terrorist acts it lowers the meaning of the word. Oh, just another terrorist attack, it can be ignored. Not going to bother to see if it's just something like this or something actually threatening violence.

I don't believe anyone said this was a terrorist attack, rather that it is a form of terrorism. Terrorism is simply causing terror in others in an attempt to achieve your own political ends. It is usually done through violence or threat of violence. This type of hate speech flyer is just as much terrorism as burning a cross in someone's yard is. Neither would be a terrorist attack, but they are both terrorism.

In 1930 the League of Nations attempted to codify what constitutes terrorism, it was never enforced (I have my own theories as to why. The U.S. would have been in constant violation since then) but they are as follows;

"1. Any willful act causing death or grievous bodily harm or loss of liberty to:
a) Heads of State, persons exercising the prerogatives of the head of the State, their hereditary or designated successors;
b) The wives or husbands or the above-mentioned persons;
 c) Persons charged with public functions or holding public positions when the act is directed against them in their public capacity.

2. Willful destruction of, or damage to, public property or property devoted to a public purpose belonging to or subject to the authority of another High Contracting Party.

3. Any willful act calculated to endanger the lives of members of the public.

4. Any attempt to commit an offence falling within the foregoing provisions of the present article.

5. The manufacture, obtaining, possession, or supplying of arms, ammunition, explosives or harmful substances with the view to the commission in any country whatsoever of an offence falling within the present article."

I completely agree.

This is when opponents will generally come out with the whole "free speech" argument while completely ignoring that "freedom of speech" does not mean "lack of consequences." If an individual purposely attempts to cause fear, or inspire hatred, against a member of the civilian population for political reasons? Regardless of whether they have broken a law or not, they are still terrorists.

They're just state protected terrorists.

Doesn't mean any legal or violent actions should or would be used against them. Just that people around them would know them for what they are and could handle association with them accordingly.

That covers an awful lot of ground. Just about anything is terrorism then. Gee, wasn't there a lawsuit to obtain a list of people who donated to a particular cause?  That sounds like terrorism to me since it's done to achieve a political end by fear of the repercussions.

As far as I know the information on who is receiving disability or government assistance is protected information and not made public. So how are they getting the info? More than likely they are breaking the law. They are someone who works at these type offices or has a friend that does. Either way it's illegal.

Chances are they don't even have that info (or it is based on their guesses). I haven't see anything that says this info has ever appeared, just these we're going to provide this info threat letters.

Well, according to this and this , there is no way a regular citizen of Oregon could get their hands on that type of info.

Still, the fact that some self-righteous idiot would make such a threat is sickening.

My guess is that there may be more than those on public assistance who escaped notice, but that those who were noticed may have been recognized by a couple different means over a given period of time:
Their handicapped sticker for their car
Their WIC or other government aid card while using it in a store within visual of what's-her-face of the Wilds
Some other identifying feature
