If this actually pans out it will be another victory for negotiation (instead of invasion).

The US said on Wednesday North Korea  had agreed to suspend nuclear activities and a moratorium on nuclear  and long-range missile tests in a breakthrough in negotiations with the  secretive communist nation.

North Korea has also issued a statement on this.

Uh, we gave the food every couple of years after every couple of years they say they are going to stop their nuclear program.

If anything it shows that negotiation is not working. They take the food and other aid, stop work for a few months and start it back up.

I'll believe it's working when the NOKs do what Khaddffi did, which is stop work and let outside inspectors take away all his WMD equipment.

I think it has usually worked for more than "a few months" each time. As most countries with the food shortages NK has would be able to get the food without having to give up anything major in return, getting them to suspend nuclear development and allow international inspectors in to verify it slows down their progress and gives us more int on exactly where they are. This seems like a fair exchange even if it turns out to again not be permanent.

That would be nice. It would be nice if all countries did that -- but for most countries with nukes it's not bloody likely.

A delay or more intel for us is a small win for the US / Western Powers. About the same level of news importance as one of the incessant GOP presidential candidate debates.

Stability though is pretty important. A NOK collapse would be really bad for the region.

And this should help stabilize the region -- at least as long as the deal lasts.
