A body pulled from the water off India Point Park in Rhode Island has been identified as the Brown University student mistakenly linked by amateur sleuths on a social media site to the Boston bombings.

Sad, very sad. I hope this brings awareness to naming names and those responsible are found.

Horrid.  But with all the wrongful pointing of fingers and people rushing to judgment it's no surprise at least one death would be the result.

If you haven't been following this part of the story - Sunil was reported as missing in mid-March (aka a month before the Marathon bombings).

There are lots of reasons to assume that his actual death isn't linked to them at all, even in a "someone thought he might have been responsible" way. The problem is his name being linked by people online, based on (fairly trivial) physical similarities, and the fact that he'd disappeared off the grid/all known contacts relatively recently.

(The sad reality is that college students go missing relatively frequently: we just don't often hear about it unless we're in that community or there's some really substantial reason for it to make major news.)

Whoops.  I assumed he was part of that first pair that was wrongfully reported as bombing suspects.  And the first 3 letters of 'assume' spell....
