Sad news. I remember first reading about Koko in the 1970s.

My aunt (mother's brother's wife) got her doctorate working on communications among great apes in the 1970s, although she never worked with Koko. I never really sat down and asked her about her academic career. Perhaps I should; she's still alive although my uncle passed three years ago.
