Also, I rolled my eyes a bit at the opening paragraph.  The "pivotal occurrence where an LGBT person stands up for themselves in a way that ignites a flame that won’t go out until we have our full equality" they mention queer folks hoping for?  Yeah, that'd be Stonewall, when a whole lot of LGBT folks did just that, and it doesn't look to me like that flame has gone out.

Okay, good chance the writer isn't old enough to have been there, and may well not have been born yet, but s/he is drawing a comparison from '60s civil liberties history; might be an idea to look into queer CL history of that decade while s/he's at it.

The parallel with Rosa Parks is blindingly obvious, but making that connection without mentioning that queer folks already have their own such historic moment is a) appropriative, b) smacks of thinking that we're in a post-racial culture (see below), and c) is a smack in the faces of those who were involved in Stonewall or the subsequent protests (by ignoring them, but possibly also in why they're ignored - does the reporter really not know, or is s/he discounting them, perhaps as "too angry", or for ageist reasons, or even from biphobia/transphobia [quite a few "mainstream" gay rights activists intensely dislike acknowledging that bi and trans* folks were integrally involved in both the community of the time, and in the protests]?)

My guess is that the reporter's intentions were just to make a snappy story by riffing on the "back of the bus" connection, and s/he gave nary a thought to the possible implications - but the road to intersectional social justice Fail is paved with just such unconsidered intentions.

Indeed - but, something that's also true of most other social justice movements.  The kyriarchy hates letting go of any of its axes of privilege.
