2019 Donation Drive

It's time for our annual Server Donation Drive! We need to raise at least $650 (same as last year) to keep The Cauldron's server online for another year. Please help! Either hit that Paypal button to the right and make a one-time donation in any amount or set up a monthly Bronze, Silver or Gold Donor subscription. You can find more info in this message!

Donations as of 16 Sept 2019: $660 donated. $10 more our minimum goal! Let's beat last year's total of $99 more than the minimum!

Note: This total is updated manually, usually once a day

* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

First Openly Gay Male Pro Athlete in a Major American Sport
« on: April 29, 2013, 12:06:36 pm »
And the walls came tumbling down.

In a Sports Illustrated exclusive, Jason Collins of the NBA says:

Quote
I didn't set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I'm happy to start the conversation. I wish I wasn't the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, "I'm different." If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I'm raising my hand.

Somehow, I think his being gay and black is going to help this go more smoothly for him.

The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

Wow, that is incredibly brave of him to do, and I wish him all the best in his future career. I also hope that this helps open the door for others to come forward and start encouraging a more public, safer space for gay athletes.

I'm curious to see who will be next though. I kind of thought for sure it would be an NHL player of some sort, just because of the recent uptick in their involvement with projects like You Can Play and public statements about being accepting of non-heterosexual athletes, and there were a lot of rumors floating around about it as well.

He is getting some big name support on Twitter, most notably Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant.

I'm really proud of him for having the guts to do it.
Really?  So, hey, want to go fishing?  I\'ve got a telescope, and it\'s going to be a dark night, so we should see the fish really well.
...what, I\'m not talking about fishing?  That\'s stargazing?  It\'s all doing-stuff, so it\'s the same thing, right?

Yep.  And we'll all be watching pro sports with great interest.
