Laundry though was learned in junior high.

I learned to do laundry as an adult, and I'm still not very good at it.

They tried to teach me earlier, but I managed to blow up a washing machine when I was twelve and got switched to other chores.

Absent
I smile when I\'m angry.  I cheat and I lie
I do what I have to do to get by
But I know what is wrong, and I know what is right
And I die for the truth in my secret life

I wish there had been a way to blow up the pooper scooper when I was a kid.
Give me laundry or yard work any ol' day.
Scoopin up after 15 large dogs every day... not my favorite.
You have my sword
And my shield
And my... um... slacks.

O.o my mom blew up a microwave once, but a washing machine? I think I'd switch to other chores too.

I was doing dishes and other cleaning at six and my own laundry at ten. I started washing and styling my own hair around then too. Cooking and baking started around then as well. My boyfriend can do any chore except dinner, which is fine because he's a great breakfast cook and I'm merely capable of it. I cook kinda slow breakfast-wise, not a morning person and I'm not the sort who requires food to be piping hot in order to eat or enjoy it (much to his chagrin because he's hungry a lot and likes his food hot XD). I'm not allowed to cook breakfast anymore, I take too long :D

To be fair though, my mother only had two daughters (my twin and I) and my boyfriend's mom only has sons and both our moms were single for a significant portion of our lives. Household wouldn't have run without our participation. And yet my mom always figured out how to coddle us. I'm Rachael and I'm a whiny, crybaby, brat who is perfectly capable of running a household lol My mom still has one leg in the rut though XD

This is where I;m going to sound sexst.  Were they boys or girls?  oys not being able to do thebir own laundry at 19 may not be that unusual, since it was always expected that he would have a woman to do it. Not that I think they shouldn;t have to, but many people stll do think boys should have a woman to cook and clean for them.

This is what happened to my grandfather when my grandma died. He didn't know how to cook or clean or anything, and since my aunts live three hours away and my mom is out of province, the best option for him was to enter the local residence.

Before I left home to live on my own for a year, the only things I knew how to cook were:

1) Grilled cheese sandwiches
2) Omelets
3) Stir frys

That year on my own was the first time I ever cooked pasta (normally I hate pasta, but I wanted a change from frozen dinners). I called my mom in a PANIC because OMFGs THE POT IS OVER BOILING! HELP! I tried to make a stew for my food and nutrition class in high school, it was not pretty. Laundry was easy for me. I only had one white load and one dark load.

Yeah, my mom does all the cooking in the house. My dad used to cook for his siblings all the time (his parents were pretty much absent) so when he married my mom, he told her he wasn't going to be cooking, and she was all "I'm cool with that," most of the time, though, whoever is available does the chores (Dad knows how to do laundry).
