data driven, out of the box, proactive, value added plans. All you gotta do is adopt them!

That's about the order of things here. But I don't know about Canada. (That a union would approve of a school wide grading policy is just weird to me.)

Exactly, I'm still trying to  figure out how a teacher is supposed to mark  an assignment  they  DO NOT have! OH  you didn't hand the assignment in, ok no problem, here have at  the very  least a 50%   so you  don't fail we wouldn't want your self esteem to  be  hurt you poor traumatized little thing, there there don't  cry now,  oh here  have a cookie and don't  fret I'll give you a 90% for that unfinished work.

Gods forbid my child should have to learn how to deal with rejection! Because that never happens in the real world.....

And unfortunately, some children don't even realize they are getting a break, and they really think they are doing well...then get out of school and realize they have been cheated out of a proper education.

Not to mention that giving children credit for work they didn't do trivializes the work the kids do.  It lessens the worth of that A, because everyone is getting good grades just for showing up, so really working hard isn't different from just showing up.

This is a very legitimate worry IMO.

As much as I don't like comparing children's achievements or lack of them due to things like special needs, I have to agree that not doing anything is not the same as trying hard and getting even a C. For some kids that represents much work and overcoming of obstacles and their efforts are also diminished when someone doesn't even try and gets the grades anyway.
