I just read the second one, and though I found his tone at times annoying, his points are dead on and are similar to what I just wrote in my previous post.
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

The appropriate response is to bring in one of those 64 oz cups and buy enough of the smaller ones to fill it up. Oh, and of course post it to YouTube.

Nobody would give me grief for deciding as a black man not to give my $ to a business that funds the KKK. Nobody should be surprised if I and other people--gay, straight, or other--who see things my way refuse to give their money to a business that funds organizations that seek to keep me as a second-class citizen.

This.  So very this.

I actually listened to a female friend who is in an interracial marriage go on a rant about how the owners of Chick-Fil-A shouldn't be "penalized" for expressing their opinions.  When I asked her if she'd feel the same way if we substituted "interracial marriage" for "gay marriage", she looked like I'd punched her in the gut.  I think she might have finally gotten the point.

I tried that on my fundyish uncle.  He just didn't get that the first message entirely missed the point...He kept on the 'first one was more balanced (Yes, I posted the second one in response) and that it's just a 'difference of opinion' and brought up the 'freedom of speech' argument.

They just don't get the idea that you can't have a live and let live attitude of tolerance when one side is determined to destroy the other side and have the other side incarcerated or executed through the force of the government.

I was shocked when his daughter (the one who posted the original piece) actually posted that after some discussion with her friends, they thought it would be better to go help out the local food bank than support Chick-Fil-A.

This may sound a weird, but that first article is pretty balanced, as far as fundie Christian apologetics goes.

But what really irritated me (besides pedophilia = gay) was, "Let's have a polite conversation."

I am convinced that - in many instances (from all axes of privilege, not just heteronormativity) - what that really means is, "I wish Those People would stop making angry noise!  How can I ignore this thing I think is unimportant, when they keep making angry noise as if it was important??"

Without reading the article to form an opinion about whether it's weird in this instance, I can nevertheless say that I see nothing weird in general about damning with faint praise.

It's not weird; you're right about that. I think that's why I ultimately found it so irritating: because it sounds so reasonable (and it does indeed try to "reach out to the other side") that it's flawed underlying assumptions go unchallenged.

I just came across this bootlicking quote on my favorite blog, and all I can say is...

...who's been feeding you f*cking moron for breakfast?

http://www.joemygod.blogspot.com/2012/08/homoquotable-antoine-dodson.html

If there's one thing this whole episode is putting in stark relief, it's just how much gay civil rights remain OK to treat as a lesser concern--even (esp.?) among those gays who have internalized the idea of their lesser status. It's inconceivable that *anyone*, let alone any black person (besides Clarence Thomas), would label the boycott of a company that funds segregationists as "bullying."

Came across this mourning. I knew that they were Baptists, so this doesnt suprise me at all. Good way to lose a lot of business. I mean they already arent open on Sundays.

I know I'm super-late to this particular party, especially when - as a half-queer vegan - I've never even been to Chick-Fil-A.  But I just had to share this video:

My son has gotten some flak at band because his mom won't buy the chikfila meals they sometime order for game nights when no one can go home between school and the game. I take him to the grocery store the evening before, and let him get whatever he wants for dinner for that band day.

Either over winter break or at the end of the school year, we are moving from chikfila land back up to Illinois, back to the peoria area this time.  my two youngest kids will go to school with their cousins.  ANd my daughter will be back within an hour and a half of her boyfriend.  Drat on that.

Wait until the end of the school year, if you can. Why suffer through a northern winter if you don't have to?

cause there's family issues over and above mine.  JUst for fun, my sister finally got all but one of her health issues diagnosed (Fibromyaliga, DISH, kidney stones, gallstones and a couple other things I forgot, she's 39), there was a spot on her kidney they couldn't verify what it was without an MRI, most of them can apparently be diagnosed with CAT scans but 1% can't.  She had just found out she was the 1%, and I called her the next morning telling her about my husband. 2 days later, she found out it is cancer, (jellybean size, nonmetastized, thank all the gods, but she's going to lose her kidney). If she (and the 97 year old great grandma) had had her way, we'd already be up there.  If we move in december, marching band won't matter anymore, and Stanley can be transported back for the disney trip in the summer, or if we move right after school's out, he can go while we move and one of the band parents has already volunteered to stick him on the train home (or for the pickup and return if he has to come back from up there for it.).
