Erm...yeah, how is that supposed to work, exactly? How do they expect people to evacuate without transportation? And where do they want people to go?

They gave the evacuation order a good many hours before they started shutting down mass transit. As for where to go...relatives who don't live in the evac zone? One of the city-operated shelters? (Yikes.) A hotel?
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

I'm on the east coast and I'm moderately concerned about the upcoming hurricane. I've experoenced weather that was supposed to be severe, but wasn't and weather that was supposed to be mild but wasn't.

Needless to say I'm cautious about this weather. I'm hoping everyone here that's in the path of the hurricane is doing well. Stay safe and hope there isn't too much damage.

I'm up in northern Virginia, maybe 40 minutes away from DC. Sandy's almost here but thus far only some wind and continuous light rain. Troughs are full for the horses, everything is secure and there is enough hay for everyone for a few days. The basement may flood, but then again it may not. The main concern is, of course, losing power.

Well, we're flooded in to our neighborhood. The trailer full of yarn is still safe at the top of the driveway. The car is up to the running boards, not sure if the door seals will hold, so might lose the car, but the yarn is safe.

Ended up with 4 extra house guests, so instead of normal 3 people living here we have 7.

I don't know.  It's large, slow, and inspires panic in everyone in its path, so Frankenstorm fits.  Plus not everyone is going to get snow from it.

Very true.

Very true.

Some parts of the state are to get snow but here we are just getting rain and wind. The creeks may flood but the big deal will be if power goes out. Other than that we are fine here. Just a week of wind and rain.

We're smacked dab in the middle of the coming storm and "so far" it looks like a good old fashioned Georgia thunderstorm outside; then again, it's still early in the day so we'll see. Praying we don't lose power as that is our major concern, but we don't stock our fridge heavily so having to pitch a few things won't be a big deal and reading/playing board games by candlelight almost sounds romantic.

Well, so long as the people and the yarn are safe, that's what's important.   :)

You have a trailer full of yarn? Are you related to HeartShadow?

Actually I'm probably related to HeartShadow, but that's if you go back 1,000 or so years.

Realistically I just enable her yarn habit - the trailer is yarn that is for sale to people like HeartShadow.

I'm outside of Philly and our county is full of streams running into the Brandywine River.  Interstates are scheduled to close at 7 tonight.  We have some water in the basement but are staying ahead of it, so far.

Shad, driving home yesterday was a good idea.  I'd be trapped with you 'til Wed otherwise.

I'm not in the path of this one, but I've had too many to count that I was in the path of. I hope everyone stays safe and that all the Sandy hype IS just hype.

But if not, cars can be brought back to life if they don't wash away, gardens replanted, basements bailed out...etc. Keep those humans and animals in one piece and we'll see you after the 'event'.

Much as I love your company, I'm really glad you're home and safe.

It's so miserable here trick or treating has been moved to Sunday.
