2019 Donation Drive

It's time for our annual Server Donation Drive! We need to raise at least $650 (same as last year) to keep The Cauldron's server online for another year. Please help! Either hit that Paypal button to the right and make a one-time donation in any amount or set up a monthly Bronze, Silver or Gold Donor subscription. You can find more info in this message!

Donations as of 16 Sept 2019: $660 donated. $10 more our minimum goal! Let's beat last year's total of $99 more than the minimum!

Note: This total is updated manually, usually once a day

* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Do you accept other religions/faiths, and might consider that they are right?

I accept that all religions exist, and that people have the right to practice whichever religion they wish. However, I also reserve my own right to dictate which religions I will have around me, and which I won't. For instance, overly zealous I will avoid. Also Scientology. I will fight for another person's right to BE a scientologist but I don't approve of some of the very public practices of their church and therefore I will not allow it anywhere near my family.

That said, do I think they're right? I don't think anyone is "right". We don't know what "right" is until we die, and even then it may be questionable. I know what speaks to me, and that may not be what speaks to another, and what speaks to them doesn't speak to me. But, I don't look at it as right and wrong. They exist. That's it.

Don't know if this is the right forum, but I didnt find a more suiting :-)

Its a simple question really: Do you accept other religions/faiths, and might consider that they are right?

I personally accept all religions (except the ones clearly made for making money) and I know that one of them might be right. But I have found my path, and I will stick with it even if its wrong :)

I accept that other religions exist.  I accept that I don't have the one universal truth about Divinity.  And I accept that there are many different ways to interact with the Divine.  I am happy to learn about other religions to see what they may have to teach me, and also just because they're interesting.  And I know that which one of us is right, or wrong, it doesn't matter currently, unless the other person makes a big deal of it, so, for the most part, the other religions can do their own thing, and I'm not inclined to worry about it.

But, I reserve the right to decide whether I accept something as truth for me.  If you tell me, because you truly believe it, that the Earth was created by the Great Celestial Jellybean, I will nod, smile, and say, "well, that's interesting," but I'm not going to immediately accept that the Earth was, in fact, created by the Great Celestial Jellybean.  I will listen, though, and am willing to be convinced, if someone can provide a strong enough argument.

Buddhism is actually useful to adherents of many religions, with its grounding in introspection, meditation, and self-knowledge. It's entirely possible for Jews, Christians, Muslims, pagans of any and all stripes/colors/patterns, etc., to make good use of Buddhist mind-work in deepening their own practices.

HHDL has said many times that when he was young and living in Tibet, he felt that Buddhism was The Best Thing Going. Once he had fled his homeland, however, and was a refugee in India, and began meeting other people with other religions, he came to realize that while Buddhism was the best thing *for him*, other people's religions were the best thing for them. He does not wish for converts; quite the opposite, actually. He urges people to be the best (fill in the blank) they can be, and remain true to their birth religion if that is where their hearts lie. Of course, if someone is drawn to Buddhism and genuinely desires to take formal refuge, he would not deny them that; his point is, if you're happy where you are, stay there. There's no need to change.
"The Eightfold Path is sometimes called the pathless path. Each step brings a growing awareness that enlightenment is in the here and now--in the world and in our relationships as we read these words . . . now." -- Jonathan White

I accept the beliefs of everyone, and I realize that I have no right to tell anyone that they're wrong.  After all, a belief doesn't need to be shared by anyone else for it to be a belief.  Beliefs are personal, not universal.  Naturally, I'm going to think that my beliefs are correct.  But if I didn't, what would be the point in believing it?

I am going to paraphrase this as I don't remember the exact quote.

My path is not your path, my path is right for me, your path is right for you. Not all paths are the same, but all are right to the one walking them.

I mean, that's almost from the Qur'an--I'm going to paraphrase a little because it's hard to find good translations online and my books aren't in front of me, but:

"Say, to those who reject the faith:  I do not worship what you worship.  You do not worship what I worship.  I will not worship what you worship, and neither will you worship what I worship.  There is a (path/religion/reckoning/Way) for you, and a (path/religion/reckoning/Way) for me."  This is Sura al-Kafirun.

As for me, do I accept all religions?  I mean, I accept that they exist.  They're there.  As to whether or not they're "right," right about what?  About ethical behavior?  I have my agreements and disagreements.  About the nature of the afterlife?  Couldn't say.  About their deities being real?  I don't see why not, there's no call in my religion to think other people's deities aren't there.  I mean, it's not an all-or-nothing thing.  I am a big fan of a whole lot of historical Islamic thought.  Is Islam "right"?  Whose Islam?  On what subject?  According to whom?  I am very fond of a number of Christian theologians.  None of them really agree on what Christianity is.  Is who right?  There are theological positions common in parts of the Pagan community I find deeply foreign, and ethical positions I sometimes find abhorrent.  Does that make Paganism, such as it is, "wrong"?  Of course not.

I guess I'm saying I'm too big a nerd to know how to answer the question.

I accept that all religions exist, and I believe that God(s)/Goddess(es) reach us all in different ways.  Lets face it religous enlightenment is not a one size fits all item.  I really don't consider whether they are right or wrong.  Right now I know what was wrong for me, but that might be right for someone else.

As others have said, I don't mind other religions as long as they do not seek/wish harm to others or myself.  I also don't like when people preach to me hoping that they can "save" me.  I try to let them know that I am very happy they have found contentment but I will have to find my own way in my own time.

I try to think every one of them could have something to teach me, or at least, give me another perspective.  Or they can show me an example of what not to do.

As for my faith, it's what I believe is perfect for me.  I try to be tolerant and am willing to listen to what others have to say since their path is as important to them as mine is to me.  Where I start getting angry is when another faith is being forced on someone else or another's faith is causing harm; that's when I get PISSED!

Simple answer: I accept that there are other faiths and religions in this world, however I do not see them as more "right" than my own. Just that they do exist in the world and accept them as such.

Provided they aren't out to harm me or others, I tolerate all religions and respect the right of others to believe as they wish. I believe that all religions are "right" in that they are "right" for those who choose to follow them.  However, I draw the line at any religion imposing or attempting to impose its beliefs, practices or religious morality on others.

I tend to view religions other than mine like this: Their god is real to them, even if it's not real to me. So I respect that religion even if it's not mine.
